American Sentinel Canine working as a catch dog...

Here is Chimera's Boss with a couple of his most recent big catches. The boar on the left weighed 350, and the one on the right 390. These hogs were caught wild. Bay dogs were used, but Boss was the only catch dog used that day. He caught two more later, but they were only around 100#. The owners of Boss tell me they have never seen one dog by itself handle hogs over 250# the way Boss does. I hope he is able to keep it up.

If you go to Facebook, search "American Sentinel Canine" group, you can see some videos we took of the dogs today while catching some pigs.

 

Both the catch dogs, Boss and Little Hurtin, are from from kennel program. Their parents were born here as well. The bay dogs don't catch unless a catch dog has the hog in hold or a hunter has the hog's legs. Notice the difference in vocalization by the hogs when the catch dogs have hold vs when they do not.

That last post, directly above, has TWO different videos. I don't know why one shows in a link, ad the other in a window...but click on both to see both videos. The first video is her with her first truly wild hog and the second is her with her second wild hog. She caught a couple of captive wild hogs in a bay pen a few times over the last week prior to these videos being taken.

Mr Robinson how are the bandogs you were breeding for protection purposes going. I remember you posting some pics of them a while back and some videos of them training . Just being curious as to how they worked out in their protection work .

 

Great. Thanks for asking. That always has been the primary purpose of our program. This hog catching is just side venue, and is something that dogs with fight drive should take naturally to.

 

Dave... video of hurtin or video in general? We have a lot of videos (about 30) out on our website or on our youtube channel...and I have well over a hundred videos on my computer. Anything in particular you are looking to see?

 

how much does your heaviest dog weigh most of your males n dont seem to big

 

To me, "too big" means none functional. I don't worry about weight. I worry about function. "Too much" anything...be it too small, too big, too muscular, too lean, too heavy bone, too light a bone, too____ ... means something has interfered with function.

That said, I don't want too big or too small. I want function, so that is my focus.

My males range from 90-110# most of the time. Very few are smaller, and some are bigger, but most are going to be in that range.

Females are average 10-15# lighter...going 75-100.

 

You gotta great program, I check out your site every once in a while for years now, glad to see you're reaping the benefits of hard work and dedication.

I am a big fan of your dogs mate I have been for years like what was said above am glad to see your getting what you wanted from your dogs and breedings ... Are these diffrent to the swinford bandogs you also produce or is it a change in name ?

I also have a bandog nothing fancy bred more of a mutt then a bandog but he works so he's a bandog to me lol
