Whats your choice ? , just on looks alone , 1 is the 2012 crufts best of breed ,the other is a family pet !

Ok I know this is a bit unfair as the family pet is Not in condition , hasn't been washed ,brushed or been pamper'd in any way before the pics were taken !

The grey one looks like a ferret, your white one is the best, the black dog (show runner up) didn't look too bad, surprisingly, the show winner looked like it's handler, small Ambully.

looks alone then obviously the white 1 BUT :-

going off looks alone is what the show crowd get blasted for, the best one is the one that could perform best, the white dog looks really nice but if he can not fight then he is no better than the little dumpy red and white one if he can not fight.

hope this dont come across incorrectly, but id preffer a cross of the 2,show winnner a bit to heavy for my liking and not enough lift, the white dog a bit to light.

Do you work the pole cat ?

    Regards

Good point Sunbeam, but the point I'am trying to get across is the show dog is breed solely for looks and is rated by the show people as 1 of the best Staffords in the world, the other, my dog is not bred for looks!
I suppose my dog has faults, but i think my dog takes the piss out of the show dog for looks!
So were are the judges going wrong! When an average family pet takes the piss out of the champion?
Yes the best Staffords are the 1s bred for what they do in the pit! but the champion show dog is bred for looks and is very poor, to an average family pet.

just a point . show dogs are not chosen on looks entirely.
other factors come into it ie dentition, gait, structural soundness, conformation and ease of movement.
ps i am not a show freak but unless the family pet which you show is an apt dog in the arena and structurally sound whats the difference?
pps do they show greyhounds at crufts??

    A Look Back
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity from his past history. The breed originated in the nineteenth century when coal miners in Staffordshire, England, wanted a small, fast dog. They combined the Bulldog with a small local terrier similar to the Manchester Terrier. The result was the Staffordshire Bull Terrier that we know today.

i guess the bold part should disapear from the breed standard, don't you?

for the work i do with my staffords the white dog is definetely my choice. ive seen it again and again deformed/unbalanced staffords no matter how their owners put it or how good they say these stocky dogs are better for badger work lol, they tend to let them down after few minutes of work. performance is first and foremost but without the right structure is useless

Based on look alone ...Obvious for me is the white. I'm sure that he has the attitude to go with it.

The white dog is nice, but if it not pass a game test its no better than the crufts dog

jacko, I have shown dogs many yrs ago ,( jnr handler ) but don't like,or agree with them now and think it's bad for the breed .
Jacko all the things you said on what the dog is judged with is right ,BUT the judges don't stick to it ,IE champion show dogs with mayor faults ! IE the German shepard, English bulldog, english b/t , Neo mastiff, cocker spaniels , and so on , the list is endless and most of these faults started in champion show dogs or accurre very frequently in them ,( exaggerated looks ) bred to look a certain way and ignoring it faults because it's what they want and not what the dog needs !
The champion Stafford in the pic was overweight , fault , ok not the dogs fault but owners , So if this champion stafford is that good, they can over look it being fat ? So why then does it look average compare to some off the dogs on here ,
Ps I'm not bragging about my dog , just I think a lot of dogs on here, are not bred for looks But take the piss out of show winning dogs which are suppose to be the Dogs Bollocks in the judges opinion ,
Don't know if they show'd grey hounds in crufts but I think they do show them , they added whippets and jack russels a few yrs ago .

Lots of people including me would love a game dog , easier said than done though and a lot of hassle , but having a decent condition dog with drive with no mayor faults that come from show winning dogs , is a start ! and which the whole family can enjoy the benifits from ie pet for kids, companion , hunting , exercise partner ( running ,Biking ) and guard ,

There's some nice KC standard SBT's that I really like, but equally there's some I really DON'T like. I've seen KC Staffs that have the nicest temperment I've ever seen, very friendly and with nice drive in a compact package.

But there are lazy examples which are sloppily put together that I don't care for.

I myself have a SBT similar to yours Joe, he's only 10mos but has great drive and shape, at the end of the day, I'm still happy I decided to get him instead of the APBT's I could've gotten here in Eire as its my first dog like this and I still live at home, even if I could've gotten better dogs

Here is a pic of my dog from a few weeks ago, he looks better now IMO.

The main point of this post is not just to Say my dog better looking than the crufts champion ! IT's for lot of the people on Here with their dogs ,to say that their dogs are better looking , better condition ,more functional , than the show stock , And what judges are doing to the Breed ! when their average dog ( not a game dog , top of the breed standard ) can take the piss out of their best .

Going on looks alone. lol You are just as bad as us show people lmao. I do feel the dog that won crufts was too haevy though, the runner up was better, imo.

joe rock, your pet is a nice looking dog, whats his height and weight mate?
hmots how can you tell a dog has attitude just from a picture?
