Are there any proven working staffys left in the uk at all or are the dogs from the IKC the closest we will ever get to those dogs again?

IKC ? is that Reids registery ? if so there as far from working staffords as a KC stafford,a registery is a registery all but a name the same.

yeah its reids registry a thought that they dogs would be alot more like the working dogs than the KC reg dogs? Would you happen to know who does have working stock in the uk?

very little genuine working bred stock left, those that have it tend to keep it to themselves, you may fall in lucky but seeing as there are probably less than half a dozen genuine match winning staffords in the whole of the uk you can get some idea that they are not going to be jumping out at you.

Out of the half dozen staffords how many are pure staff with out a bit of some thing else added?

  8. The problem with SBT breeders is they will only breed to other SBTs..where as pitbull breeders can breed to any top winning match dog around...and possibly improving the ability of their offspring...but the SBT breeders dont have that choice unless they make up their mind ..if they want to improve their stock or just preserve the SBT ?

I guess we will never know the answer to that,

I would just go with a small gb APBT. A lot easier to find good quality working stock from smaller apbt animal breeding and you will also get a better bang for buck. I don't know working sbt so just my opinion and two cents .

  13. Frinto, what i mean to say is ...if there was a great 32lbs pitbull won 6 matches from a very producing line... a SBT breeder would never think of breeding to him...and would breed to some below average SBT because its a SBT...if you consider that they ware once the one breed, and the sporting SBT men want to have dogs to compete against anybreed (not just other SBTs)..it would make more sense to breed to the 32lbs pit bull than another SBT...as it will improve you SBT's offspring ...but STB breeders will only breed to another SBT

Once saw a guy writing if you don't know them you don't need to know them.

you are right earl preston ....i was once going to breed my bitch to curstopper .... but with her being a staff i thought she wasn't well enough bred to breed to him ! :)

it was like bohemigsboy aka barney ( a staff of dubious breeding ) ...when he was at stud no one would use him just because his breeding wasn't 100 % and many opted for a staff with a fancy pedigree !! i'd have had barney to any staff in the country at that time !

  17. sunbeam

skipper, if barney was of dubious breeding does that mean he may not have actually been a pure stafford ?
for me if there is a tiny bit of something else in there i still consider them staffords as that is the vast majority of their makeup, a guy recently told me how he would never breed to a redbull dog as their was a little foreign blood back of him and so was not pure, the same guy did not understand why i raised my eyebrow, the same guy you see keeps dogs bred down from psycho... i guess their is nothing like kennel blindness :-)

Then you would be breeding "gamedogs" & not staffords.
If i had a great bulldog as you say, then the last thing i would be doing would be to put it across a stafford. I don't see any logic in that, regardless of stud fee.
Countless amount of those type of breedings have been done this last 40 or so yr involving the stafford & falsely papered up. Hence the problems in authenticating the true pedigrees of the dogs around today.

if a cross was used for w/e reason and not used again, then after 5 generations the dogs would be seen as pure bred any way.

sunbeam he came with kc papers but was bred by a peddlar and was thought to have some other blood in further back ...i am with you in that i don,t give a shit if it has a touch other blood in its still in the main a staff . i also got told redbull had a touch of other stuff in but as i say it doesn't bother me .... people get all hooked on fancy pedigrees instead of stuff that is proven !!..people would be really shocked if they knew how some of their kc staffs are really bred... all for the better imo !!
