Just curious, it sounds like your ultamate goal may be to end up w more agile "working dogs"....Soooo why are you starting off w/ barrell chested pug nosed, show stock? There are good working dogs still available in the staff just not as plentifull as the other types..Like I said no offence just curious.

does any one else think the 1st stafford standard bred a game dog ? infact does any think a standard of any sort breeds a game bred dog ? LOL..

 

the dogs were game enough before any standard was introduced..imo

showing and standards ruin dog breeds.the only standard to aim for should be the dogs performance.

 

I agree, the only standard should have been gameness and ability, then the Stafford might have being as good as the APBT, but that was all stopped when they got KC recognition ..same happened when APBT got recognized by the AKC as AmStaffs... R

 

I like some off the show line Staffs not all of them are the same. I found something that I like and I hope to improve upon it. No problem asking questions I'm not easily offended.

A box dog has evolved into the many strain of APBT competing today.........but rest assurred if any other breed started to compete and win regular AND produce then the APBT will end up in the same situation as the SBT.

There are many examples throughout history........sharpei,cardoba dog,canary dog,blue paul,akita-inu,etc......

Even Tosa and Bullykuttas compete more than SBT which must be due to the geography of their region but it a fact that APBT are matched into these breeds rather than SBT.

 

true enough hammer,but even thats rare.what pbt do you know fit for the square that will go pound for pound into tosa/kutta type dogs?very very few me thinks. what is the average weight of the tosas/kuttas in match??

 

I'd be surprised if the proven catchweight dogs could not do anything with them dogs,regardless of weight. Dogs of the past that is.

 

it'd be a spectacle for sure.

 

a large pit bull at 70 lbs fit from a good strain would destroy any molussos....

but they would be hard to find in the fastlane. Dogmen are busy with 30-40lbers which can go close to two hours in the box. These dogs head woud fit in the mouth of one of these tosa/ bk. But a seasoned leg and rear dog would have to disable the under carriage on under twenty mins. Then finish at 30 min mark. Many light boned game dogs would get crushed. Forget about a ear or head trying to out wrestle one of these.

But BK get beat regularly by a Kanda (thorn) bog. Which is a BK crossed with a Gull terr(hinks\early EBT) which is quick off the mark and pure mouth. Kanda is used to big game and doesnt try to wrestle.

But a Kanda is a very thorny proposition. They will latch on to anything including you! They are brough to the field with two handlers and a sheet restricting their view of their opponent.

BK v TOSA are evenly matched and the honours go to the better dog on the day.
But even the local dogmen prize the APBT.....mainly as brood stock.

those bully kutta are some size, funny how you can import them into uk with no problems yet we cant have the apbt there is loads of bk in the uk now.

 

man those things are huge and aggressive!!!
