Does anyone else supplement their dogs with it? I was reading about the benefits of it in the book "Dogs Of Velvet And Steel". I was at a health food store today and found the tablets so I picked a bottle up to try on my pup, I wanted to get the powder, in the book it said it's cheaper and absorbs better in the body. If you use it, How much do you give your dogs? Do you feel like it's really helped your dogs?

    Thanks!

I don't use it on dogs but I take it myself. Noticed a difference after about a week. Felt better endurance and recoverying from sprint intervals was faster inbetween sets.

Liver is suggested to people with anemia, if it helps them it doesn't mean it will help the same way a healthy person. Twenty+ years ago, dessicated liver was a popular supplement among human bodybuilders because they thought it would offer them an advantage, blood wise etc with results in better training and achievements. But it did nothing special and it was abbandoned in favour of milk, egg, whey and mixtures of proteins. I feel that today this product sells close to nill in humans so the next potential market are the animal feeding needs. When the barf and the other raw models, suggest usually once per week liver consumption, why someone should use this product? Is there any advantage of desicated compared to raw? if there is, I do not see it. So, unless someone for whatever reasons prefers to feed kible and only kible, and in this mentality I think it could fit in, I can not see the use of it.

I do agree tons of things have changed in the last twenty years or so. Back in the day when my money and my time (especially my money) was riding on my every decision I seldom jumped ship to the 'next big thing'. I agree I missed out on somethings and got in on the tail end of others but I played it close to the vest with what I knew was working from my personal experience. I have used it while walking my dogs and I have not used it and I have seen the difference. Agreed this is not a university sponsored double-blind case study with liscensed doctors/nutritionists so I can't foot-note a ton of references. What I can say is that I have used dessicated liver for a number of years and have seen the differences of with and without. I am a recovery guy in the workout regimen, as I do push for more and more, but at the same time I am far more concerned with when can you do it again vs. how much did you do? The dessicated liver has made a difference in both amount of work, but I have always felt it was an excellent aid in shortening my recovery times, both day to day, as well as set to set, or even flurry to flurry. Thanks for the response. Best of l uck to you and yours. US1

  7. Why not just feed raw liver?

Thanks for all of the responses!

Hmm. I didn't really think about that. I guess just because its cleaner than feeding raw liver would be the only advantage of it? I'm actually looking into feeding her a completely raw diet soon. But for right now she gets raw meaty bones and kibble that I supplement with Fish Oil pills and now the dessicated liver.

Dessicated Liver is just a supplemental vitamin. Like B vitamins,Iron etc.

Dessicated liver tabs are concentrated so you would need to eat a shit load of raw liver to equal the concentrated form. Dessicated liver is also specially processed so that it takes the bad things out of the raw liver like the fat and cholesterol etc.

In Bobs book dessicated liver has been shown in certain studies to carry that rare B-15 supp. also known as DMG, float like a butter fly sting like a bee, in which Muhammad Ali took.

As with any product/supplements, results will vary to degrees on each individual person or animal.

Imagine taking a supplement that will instantly turn you into Super man lol,There is NO magical product yet LMAO.

Just asking for my edjucation and not really arguing, what is the equivalent of let's say 10 tablets to raw liver? About triple size it would be the completely hydrated form if it is not pressed / concetrated whatever, how much would it be in raw?
About cholesterol and fat, why would these be bad for a dog? Even in humans the latest studies quote that it is not the cholesterol it self that you get harmfull effects but the total fat consumption and bodyweight. Also in foods with high cholesterol nature has balanced it eg egg yolks have lecithin, squid has zero fat etc.
I am partially relactunt to accept the dessicated liver effects since I know that top human athletes do not use it anymore. Unless it is because they use more advanced supplements, not available to dogs, so even if it has inferior results, liver does add. Only thinking out loud.

I would be careful giving anything in a concentrated form even to people but especially to animals to much of some things (like iron) can be toxic. Unless your dog is lacking something it is usually not that beneficial.

I agree it is old school, but I have seen the difference bewteen using it and not using it. Is there thnigs out there better, absolutely. Safer, well, maybe. Although the next best thing has come along several times since the first usage of DL it is still a viable obtion for high grade B vitamins. I guess my thought process is that although the drug industry has evolved hundreds of times over in the last forty years the human body, or the canine athlete has not. Neither of us has evolved to thepoint of a vitamin that worked years ago will not work now. If in the forty years of nutrition evolution there is findings that what use to work also provided undisputed negative effects then I can see why time worked in our favor. US1

I dont know the exact amounts or raw liver converted to dessicated tablet form but as with most concentrated supps its usually way more then the raw form. Im sure there are charts or articles on line that roughly convert certain foods percentages into supplement forms.

Too much Cholesterol and fat is not good for anyone, there are also good fats and bad fats but I aint going into that lol.
Example lets say 1 serving of beef liver is equal to one tablet of dessicated liver. Now lets say each serving of the beef liver has 78mg of cholesterol. Now the usual most commen dose for dessicated liver is around 10 tablets a day. So you times the 78mg by 10 which equals=780mg per day, that is a shit load of cholesterol, now lets say you taking that amount every day imagine how high ya cholesterol gonna be in a month? lol That is unhealthy for ANYONE. AND if your conditioning goal is too keep ya weight down eating 10 servings of beef liver a day is gonna be a hard challenge. Athletes take supplements mainly to keep there body well norished with out the bad effects like gaining weight and some of that bad unhealthy secondary shit associated with natural foods.

Now does dessicated liver work? Like I said it will vary from each individual person or animal and even each individual brand of Dessicated liver.

Like I said before there is no miracle or magical supplement that will give you instantaneous results and turn you into Super man. Here's a joke This skinny dude went into a bodybuilding gym ask the biggest dude there who was bench pressing 600lbs how he came that strong, the bodybuilder replied steroids, skinny dude said ok then he left, he came back the next day and said to the body builder I took some steroids Im ready to bench that 600lbs LMAO ROTF.

I tried to be polite about your ignorance you f*ckin cock.

Cholesterol is a sterol that is a vital component of cell membranes and a precursor of sex hormones, adrenal hormones, Vitamin D, and bile acids. Bad choloestrol has nothing what so ever to do with the level of cholesterol in food, it is elevated by stress.

Fat has no effect on insulin.
Insulin converts dietary fat to storage and removes fat from the blood and transports it into fat cells.

The percentage of fat in the diet has no connection with any major health outcome, including obesity.

Rhaponticum while not being able to turn Pee Wee Herman into Mr. Olympia overnight or even develop you a second brain cell, it is natural and actually more anabolic than Dianabol.

Now what kind of c*nt comes on here talking shit about a subject that they have no knowledge on and calling other forum members retards.

As it is Sunday if you would like to copy and paste a load of shit of the internet on subjects that you know nothing about I would be quite happy to tell you what is correct and what is correct.
