Dominance a precursor towards Man Biters

I was always under the impression that a man eater was a dog that is calm one second and then snaps the next and that the dog is just genetically prone towards it. However, a dogman told me that if a bulldog shows dominance towards humans (mounting, jumping, etc.) that it could eventually lead towards the dog becoming a man biter. Does anyone with any experience with man biters have any say into this matter? Thanks.

food bowls. i know some say not to mess with a dogs food bowl, but ones that challenged me with a snarl when i decide to add a little something extra, have been the ones that ended up being too spooky for my liking. im a firm believer in the old theory of "bites the hand that feeds you" and i better be able to take your food away if i choose. even if it is to add a little gravy and give it back. i want my dog to trust me and i want to be able to trust them in return.

I would be more comfortable with a food aggressive dog and one that tries to assert dominance...i believe these traits can be trained or weened out with time

the ones that are man biters at its worst are the shy dogs and bite, growl, snarl out of insecurity...had a few of these...realized they weren't worth the time or feed

Aggresive is aggressive. And i dont breed or want an human aggresive dog,We have enough problems as it is with these hounds. I love them more and more as the years go on but i cant be another dumb ass owner on t.v. looking like who done it?

had a grandson off TVK's Ch Chomper, off Nino's Lil Red who was piss mean around his food, we just left him alone and their were never any incidents, never. I didnt like it but he never nailed anyone, was good outside his feed bowl

Food aggresson should be delt with as puppy or as soon as you get the dog.
I gt one that will bite any one right away,no playing, sniffing just crazy and one will be cool in a min and decide he dont like you. Both are man bitters.

LMAO, nah not my dog. Just wondering if dominance is a precursor towards man biters and if dominance aggression is a sign of a true man biter.

I definitely agree. Whether the dog is a true man biter, food aggressive, chain aggressive, dominant aggressive, etc. Aggressive is aggressive to me and if that dog isn't worth keeping, I'd cull. I'm just wondering if the dogs that are in these categories can be considered true man biters or if man biters are just born, or if they are created.

Would you consider those dogs to be true man biters, or just food aggressive/ dominant aggressive? Also in your experience with these dogs, do you believe man biters are made, or if they are born?

my dogs dont go hungry, so if one is willing to take me on knowing i feed his/her ass daily thats a man biter imo. no dog will dominate me and get aggressive for the food I PUT IN ITS BOWL.
and yes, ive seen em made from rough handling and ive also seen dogs that were on easy street just get nasty as hell for no good reason(put one down this past summer for snapping at my mom).... complicated subject, but imo the solution is always the same. dirtnap

    ^^^^^^

I dont keep pups, generally........so am used to getting dogs with issues. ANY dog soon learns that you're the good guy. Feed his ass for 1 month on the chain. Even the dumbest dog knows where his food comes from. Then get him to obey a command. No compliance no food. If he remains stubborn.........he will starve to a point where he wont be able to raise an objections. This will demonstrate that you aint no chump that HAS to feed his dumb ass. Slowly he will learn to valve you and his feed. Otherwise he will be recycled ;)

I wouldn't necessarily label those behaviours as ''dominant''. Often it's just bad manners, excitement, etc... I've handled alot of ''rude'' dogs but most of them were just that... rude... not man biters.

i am not one to hurt a misbehaving dog but any dog that snarls or gets food dominant around me will get kicked so hard they will hit the other end of that chain they are on , plain and simple. It will not be tolerated at any stage.

  20. I had a female off of Stripling's(Garner's) Razor that would tear a stranger to pieces if they got near her pups, which ended up being a blessing when I found a "friend" of a "friends" coat torn to hell in her kennel one morning. But anyone that i was with had no problems.
