I didn't tell about that incident in regards to proving if a dog was game or not, i told it because many on here assumed the KC reg'd staffords from the 1980s wouldn't or couldn't do the job like a working stafford, but back then most people kept pedigrees as conformation/proof of the dog's background, some reg'd with the kennel club some didn't, two people could have bought pups from the same litter and some may have been worked while others were kept as pets or showed.
it was only as more time passed the void between working and showing grew, the modern show stafford say from 12 - 15 years ago to now, they could never be working dogs, but a stafford from mid 1980s or before kc reg'd or not could've been used either way.
That stafford i mentioned never showed anger before, but the EBT had killed a few dogs, yet the quiet dog still knew what to do and was doing it well, So he was physically able and it shows the fight was still in them then?
If he could have lasted 40 mins or longer would have depended on his fitness, chances are he would have tired as he wasn't prepared for or conditioned/trained that reason, but it would be reasonable to think if he was placed on a diet and exercised properly he'd get fit enough? then the only thing left would be to see if he'd want to continue when it got tough, maybe, maybe not?
BUT could a KC reg dog of today lift and shake a 45 pound EBT which had killed a few dogs?? not a chance.

I never heard of this dog:::::what weight was it ? another of these famous dogs no one has heard of till nearly 25 years later, when some get on a staff forum

  3. I was directed here by a friend who knew Sean, Sean was a true gent. When i first got into owning dogs i would meet sean out conditioning a dog and was always amazed he would venture out on a bike with no chain, what if he needed the man power to get home i always thought lol another activity he would have the dogs doing was swimming in the river foyle close to where he lived. RIP.

  4. Wasn't there another good red staff back then called Toby?

negativity? all i've been doing is debating how that black dog you like wouldnt compete in anything, and since you defend it so heartedly i dare to say your dog(s) are just like it. if telling you my opinion is negative then so be it, or should i agree with you? all that time you spent writing that long paragraph was in vain. a good dog in 30 years and someone who's dead who cant vouch for you. i also can tell you few stories but i stick to the obvious, something you cant stand

Lol this thread is gettin funnier by the day but more and more off topic. Show staffords r a joke compared to working staffords there isn't any arguement with that. Like trying to compare a fitness model to a middle weight boxer. They may both look better than the average person but I know which I'd rather have hit me a slap. Working strain versions of any dog rarely look even close to their far removed show equivalent. German shepards with sloped backs and arthritic hips, rottweilers with heart defects, neopolitan mastiffs with exagerated wrinkles and skin conditions. All thanks to breeding for aesthetics and not performance. Crufts wasn't televised last year because of veterinary society not condoneing the use of inbreeding, it wasn't healthy for the dogs. This is also the case in my opinion when dogs r inbred to 'keep gameness". When breeding is being done the priorities shud b 1.health. 2.performance. 3 anythin else afterwards. Inbreeding dogs to keep characteristics we like makes anyone doing it as bad as the kc in my opinion.

Yes she was a sister to Black Nailius and was a very game bitch . The only way to preserve gameness is to inbreed/linebreed from select individuals culling out those that are not game or have faults , this is the same way nature has evolved over millions of years . The major factors you inbreed for are health , performance this way you keep out faults from outcrossing its the way Roosters , Horses and Dogs have been bred for centuries . In nature the lion breeds to his females then his daughters , grandaughters until hes old then one of his inbred sons takes over , its the same in game roosters and most species in nature , this certainly applies in gamedogs otherwise we wouldnt have so many families created around certain outstanding individual dogs , this i know to be correct having heavily inbred various families of dogs with the resulting dogs being stronger/fitter and gamer some may have lacked ability but thats secondary to gameness in a breeding programme , admitedly you can get some litter wastage but that can also occur when completely outcrossing . As for KC staffords being a joke thats also wrong as some of the best ever were KC bred dogs such as GRCH Ben ,GRCH Rocky , GRCH Brindy , CH Kim , CH Clyde ,Toro , GRCH Sam and im sure GRCH Duke was a pure stafford as were many more game one and two time winners , like ive said before the KC havent ruined the working staffords , this was done by so called working dog owners breeding from inferior dogs dogs with false pedigrees or dogs that quit , we dont need the KC we do a good enough job ourselves

I'm always willing to listen and be corrected so thats One lesson taken on board but still think it can't be totally healthy for the litter themselves?

lol, forgive me laughing, but 25 years ago we all didin't use internet and forums like this didn't exist, I've yet to meet anyone who took ad's out in their local paper and advertised what they were up to with their dog back then also, So if you hadn't heard of the dog maybe you should ask anyone from around here who had, If you knew or know of a man initials WM who had from the outskirts of Derry who kept some serious pitbulls in his day ask him about the Red Stafford "Prince" or The Prince Dog,, it was him who recon'd it would've took a pitbull to beat him.
