I would prefer the chain set up if you had the space & privacy. I also believe that the dog would benefit more on a chain set up. Just my tuppence worth.

It's a valid reason, not an excuse, the photo was taken on the mat at a show? the floor surrounding is a sports hall? so the bitch had just been run up & down and still has the collar up under her jaw as she is been viewed over?

Good to see someone else saw what i saw in that photo, you're right, she's a fine bitch, maybe some on here are thinking "staffordshire terrier" and forgetting we are discussing a "Staffordshire Bull Terrier" in that photograph
as for working or gameness, yes it makes sense that breeding from game proved stock raises the chance of producing game offspring, but all untested dogs are unknown quantities, if you were to roll them with a dog and but them on the defence you'd be likely to find more of them would suprise you than would dissapoint you.
I saw a dog i knew from a pup until he was 3 and a half shock me and his owner when he was attacked by a working type english bull terrier, the stafford shook him off like he was nothing, flipped him over and gripped him by the throat and battered him about like a rag doll until we got them seperated, i can assure you we saved that EBT from a serious hammering by the quietest more placid stafford i knew.
So never assume a dog which is not worked is not able or game.
I'm not referring to the modern miniture show stafford, this was about 1986/87 with a KC reg'd stafford who'd been in many shows

I can't see the benefit, unless it's to in some way strengthing the neck muscles? or the issolation is thought to make the dog a bit more aggressive? I always assumed it was common practice in the USA because it saved a lot of expence erecting pens/runs & kept the dogs apart so they don't kill eachother, but I recon a dog in a pen with some room to run around & maybe a few toys (a hanging tyre) to swing on etc would be better?
Just my own opinion also, eveyone has their own way for whatever reasons

Short Sighted? you're in Argentina? I'm beginning to think you're judging this little bitch as a Staffordshire Terrier and not a Staffordshire Bullterrier?
Even back in the 1970s & 1980s a KC reg'd Stafford bitch would not have been any taller but some would have been showed at a heavier weight.
For a Staffordshire BullTerrier she's a very nice example and in no way short.
Any longer she's be a Giraffe

I gotta agree with Ricky .I also think the part about being more agressive from being on the chain ,well stop reading the peta bs.

Why does everyone blame the KC for the demise of the stafford as a true working gamedog , the ruination of the working stafford began when so called dogmen got hold of them and mass produced them adding none working blood other breeds putting false pedigrees on them and breeding from dogs that were not game . The KC have ruined the show stafford as a breed but have not ruined the so called Irish strains that were originally bred from English KC dogs and through selective breeding by Irish dogmen that actually tested there dogs produced some very game families of dogs some pure stafford others add a little English Bull blood but all were proven tested dogs . Then they were brought back to England in the 70s -80s and English dogmen and dealers began to apply there knowledge to the dogs and the dogs were basically prostituted for profit , many dogs were bred from that had quit or had false pedigrees , dogs became Champions that were never matched dogs appeared and are shown as GRCH because they could pull a truck or run up and down a show ring or chase a flirt pole , ive had newcomers tell me the grandsire to there dog was a GRCH and seven time winner when they sent me the pedigree not one dog in a six generation pedigree had seen work , another young man had bought a pup of a GRCH staff that was a confirmation Champion , the dam was out of my old GRCH Jim dog , problem was Jim died 8 years before the bitch was born when i told the breeder this he told me maybe the breeding was made without my knowledge . The working stafford is being ruined by so called working dog owners not testing there stock or breeding from dogs that are descendants of dogs that should never have been bred from in the first place . Ive owned dogs that i liked and had success with only to find out there pedigrees were wrong or dogs in them had quit , some of these dogs i kept until old age but never bred from them as i knew only to well how it feels to pay hard earned cash for supposedly gamebred wellbred dogs that sadly turned out otherwise , it kinda sticks in your craw . So lets not put the blame on the KC they have ruined the show stafford but are not responsible for ruining the working Irish strains the Irish boys sent lots of game wellbred dogs to England they also sent plenty of shite , howevor it was the English dealers that bred from them and started the demise of the breed .

actually it will be called kennel blindness what you are suffering from. i am just giving you a perspective from a working point, how can i put this to you: well staffords with this structure are worth a tossed turd to work with.

the highlighted sentence is just so ridicolous, maybe a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds you can tell them this bedside story, they might believe you

I happen to have photos I took personally at dogs shows which prove my bedtime story, and since your not from the UK or Ireland it's more laughable that you're telling me who lives here that i'm wrong
So you're saying KC reg'd stafford females were taller but leaner than that black bitch in the UK and Ireland?
As for your >> "well staffords with this structure are worth a tossed turd to work with" comment, is a real joke, working staffords came in all shapes and sizes, looks didn't matter, some of them looked like mutts, they were matched against dogs of the same weight and the most important requirements were "Gameness" "skill" and Staying power" which no one on here will deny and since that is a fact it would make your STRUCTURE comment worth a Tossed Turd.

I don't own the bitch so how can I show you her doing something else?? but > do you not believe your own eyes? is that bitch at a dog show or not?
is she standing on the runway/mat in a sports hall with a maple varnished floor with markings for basket ball etc? would it be very likely she was run up & down with the collar pulled up tight keeping her on her toes? and last but not least, for the comfort of humans im sure that indoor event was heated?? which would cause any dog to pant or "gasp" as you put it.

yeah... then where is the proof to all that you are saying?
show worthless dogs yes i agree with you they might've been shorter than the one in the pic, no doubt. that's why this thread is called today's staffords are a shame.

Hmmm, I've never chained one, the most i ever kept at one time was a pair (two) even now the one male i have gets the whole yard to himself, it's not a massive yard but he can run around it, does play fighting with anything from dog toys to a big stick, I locked him in his kennel to dig out part of yard to prepare to concrete it, he busted the kennel door off to get out, i tied him like he was chained to keep him restricted to one area so we could work, he went nutts and chewed through the rope until free, once free he was calmer.
maybe their more active chained because they want to be free but can't chew through a chain?

that's secondary to a working breed and to cuddle around their owners feet after a hard day of work. staffords were never meant for shows
