  2. Purina "Exclusive" 4 Sporting dogs.Very good grain 4 a dog in keep.Buttermilk, honey, spinach or greens.Fresh veggies preferably.Canned or frozen can loose their vitamin potency.RF1 is an excellent supplement 2 add.You gotta be careful with how much fresh foods you give your dog when adding xtra supplements. You can defeat the purpose.Dog runnin hot etc..etc.The key is high protein and fat and no junk additives.I feed my dogs red meat twice a week in and out of keep.Gotta let a dog be a dog as he would be in his natural state.I personally work a dog twice a week in keep.I know that sounds unconventional but there is a method 2 my madness!1rst day 5 miles roadwork, cooldown on mill.Rest for the 2,3rd day.Fourth day,10 mi. and progress in this manner towards the end of a 30 day keep. The goal is to achieve a 30 mi run in 3hrs.Simulating a 3hr "sportin event"Eight workouts and 110miles total.Versus working a dog everyday at 30 workouts and 480 miles.Less stress on the dog,he stays well rested and more willing to work vigoriously than a dog thats worked day after day.I've been simply outclassed on a few occasions, but its been 15yrs since i brought a dog in flat or peaked too soon.We all know gameness is first and foremost in a good dog,but if a dog cant breath, a dog cant -----! Yes but humans are different than dogs. I've never seen a fight go over 30 mins. straight, in fact, I don't think any combatative sport for humans allows any round to last more than 5 mins. After 5 mins. each athlete gets to rest in the corner and refuel etc. Also for humans, it is stated by notable fighters such as Bas Rutten that strength and speed is everything in a fight. If your opponent is 2 times stronger than you, but you are 4 times faster, your outcome of winning is a lot greater and vice versa. If you are stronger and faster than your opponent, than you will kill your opponent. With dogs it is different since there is the factor of gameness. I don't think you can compare MMA to dog matching, they are both different sports.

With the advancements in nutrition made over the years, I think the best feed would be to keep it simple and to just feed a high energy kibble that is complete. Dogmen of yesteryear didn't have the advantages and luxury we did. The dogfood back then is no where near as nutritious and wasn't 100% complete or balanced. We now have foods and multi-vitamins created and designed specifically for working dogs. The best thing would probably be to feed the dog nutritious foods, work them hard, rest and repeat until the dog is conditioned. I think the only reason why dogmen chose to incorporate different additives into their dogs' feed was simply due to necessity since things like redcell, rf1, k9superfuel, etc. weren't available.

Keeping it simple might keep you from making mistakes that can hurt your dog throughout it's keep but keeping it simple will not get you in optimal condition.

I agree. That's why I was using the tennis to ping pong contrast. Both different sports but similiar. Actually though pride fighting had 1-10 minute and then 2-5 minute rounds. Actually Royce Gracie and Sakuraba fought a 90 minute fight. Dogs also sort of get a rest because you get 30 seconds in the corner between handles.

That's an interesting take on conditioning. I think your increasing the mileage to much though. you are going from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 to 25 to 30 without much working out to get there. Seems to much of an increase to me. I would rather work them more during the week with smaller increments to get to that 30 mile mark.

  9. Do you guys give fast proteines before and after the work-out and some slow proteine couple hours later?
muscle fibers needs fast proteines after work-out to recover.

What do you consider fast and slow proteins? You shouldn't feed before the work out. You should feed 30 minutes after work out.

I give a half cup of FAT FREE cottage cheese and a glucose tab as soon as the dog stops breathing through its mouth and then feed it its feed 30 minutes after that

What is the cottage cheese for? I see alot of people feeding that. i know I asked someone this awhile ago but i forgot. How much cottage cheese should you feed a dog per 10 pounds? Also why the fat free? Dogs use fat for energy.

High protein and high fat. I use both the regular cottage cheese and the fat free. I add the regular to there feed radomly and i use the fat free after a workout because they need protein but no fat for recovery. The full fat cottage cheese is a great additive to get and keep weight on dogs.

I think you missed my point! Wardog. I would bet i can out condition 99% of you guys on here. i prove it everytime. Anyone who listens to me ends up going from losing to winning. Dogs and humans are very similar , if someone cant realize that than they must not have much up stairs. The arguement u guys r making is that a mma fighter doesnt have to compete as long and gets rest. A dog has better endurance than a humane naturaly so they are already ahead of us. Can u compete For 45 min right off the sofa? NO. A dog can! So why would anyone have to run a dog for more than 60 min. tops? The fact is the more complicated u make the feed and the more complicated u make the work outs the more chances you have to over work or fuck things up. The key to condition a dog properly is to find a perfect balance between endurance and strenght. Keep everything consistant while still working towards your peak. Something that most cant acomplish. A Dog should be worked slowly gradualy increasing till a peak is reached, 1.5 week before the event than the work should be minimized so the dog can recuperate but not go stale. The mistake most make is not working the dog at all the last week. Everyone claims this and that but the fact is that when it comes push to shove they come short. i have come to compete against some of the best so called conditioners and competetors and was very disapointed by the way their dogs performed on the weightpull track. By no means was this thread ment to aid anyone with bad intentions. I strickly only compete in weight pull events and this is what i am refering to.

I do get your point and agree with you to a certain extent, keeping it simple will avoid costly mistakes but at the same time keeping it simple won't get you to peek condition. I also don't think it is a mistake to rest the dog the last week. I'm not saying you should just leave him in the kennel and do nothing but I do think that you should rest the last week. All hard work comes to a stop. getting him out a couple times a day for a short jog will be good enough.

The longest professional boxing match was 7 hrs 19 mins lasting 110 rounds, it was the end of the round when a fighter put the other down, some rounds were long and some were short.
MMA is quite a good comparison to dog matching, same fibre types needed, same energy systems needed, same conditioning needed. The difference is the rules. Even the maximal efforts interspersed with submaximal efforts are the same.
Obviously the stronger, faster fighter wins, speed and strength go hand in hand, a big fat Olympic weightlifter can cover 30 metres faster than an Olympic sprinter and can jump higher than every athlete with the exception of a high jumper. That is why the goal is to be powerful, the definition of power is force x velocity. As far as gameness goes it exists just as much in people as dogs and obviously that doesn`t mean someone having a big mouth.

Keeping it simple doesnt mean dont work ur dog. You can reach peak physical condition by simply running ,tugging, and flurt pole. Gradually increasing the exercises till u reach peak. You said it ur self ur have fucked up the keeps and r still trying to figure it out. I dont, ive mastered it(plain and simple). So people can disagree all they want but as the saying goes "THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING" . Everyone gives advice but at the end of the day after all their claims who actually can show what they have acomplished. FEW CAN! just some nice bred dogs.
