Yas, dogs were being sent to america from Ireland long before the kennel club accepted staffs in 1935! It would be more accurate to say that there is no such thing in the modern era. also in my opinion it would be wrong tosay that all the pitdogs of old can be traced to england!

  5. In your opinion bam where do you think pitdogs could be traced back to

Posting something you feel isn't "underground" enough on a public message board frequented by thousands of people from all over the world seems a bit counter-productive. :o

  7. Jacko is talking shite, underground my bollix, good dogs are where ye find them be it England, Ireland or Wales. Ye are the reason genuine lads dont advertise there dogs because they end up in the hands of the likes of chancers like ye

No Surrender, no doubt most of the modern dogs can be traced to Britain and Ireland but i think that old breeds from continental europe also played their part. also when we see the difference in size between dogs like COLBY'S PINSCHER and TUDOR'S BLACK DEMON to the original imports from Britain and Ireland I think it points to the infusion of other types. The Blue Poll for instance was a dog nearer 60 pounds and said to be a GAME DOG! JUST MY TUPPENCEWORTH:)

Jack I must respectfully disagree. These dogs were established in England but they didn't just appear out of thin air! They were selectively bred from indigenous dogs and dogs that were brought from Europe. F.G. Henry imported dogs from England but the OLD FAMILY dogs imported from Ireland were of a different type, tending to be much smaller etc.

  12. Bam I think your dead on. Travel back then was hard so most dogs would have been bred best to best in and around the area where ever you lived. Each area having its own type of champion, you only have to look at the early Black country types, how different they looked to each other. As travel methods improved so did the selection for different dogs to breed from. There was no standard so breeding the best to the best every time slowly shaped the best type of combat dog JMO

youve been learning your OWN history of the yanks,......dear oh dear.WHEN THE PAPER TRAIL RUNS OUT, THE LEGENDS BEGIN. jacks on the the money.......no dog ever challenged the supremecy of the REAL BULL TERRIER which was ENGLISH,WHETHER HE COMPETED ON ENGLISH/IRISH/EUROPEAN OR AMERICAN SOIL.

because i use the same paint picasso used it doesnt make me as good as him until i paint equally or better. what good is a blue print to you if you dont know how to build let alone not being an arquitect. dont discredit the brittish folks in that department, when it comes to being creators (manmade) of good breeds for hunting, matching, grafting, bushing, digging, retrieving etc... no other country come near. some breeds had been refined for the betterment and bred to be kept true to type but that's about the extent of it. just my 0.02

The real bull terrier? Are you referring towards the half and half dogs, hink's terrier aka the old bull and terrier (not these oval head shaped dogs), the game staffordshire bull terrier, or the american pitbull terrier? If you are referring towards the apbt, I can tell you now that the apbt has been bested by other dogs in a regular manner in China by the game shar peis. I'd also say that the game sharpeis would also hold their own against a game staffie.

thanks evryone for their thoughts. it just shows how one leads to another eh , as i said at the begining ,it was only a thought.anyway regarding shar peis i know a couple of folks with them, though nice enough ,they seem to suffer with skin and bone problems.i cant say i have seen a game bred specimen but i doubt that they suffer as much as their showy counterparts .any pics or info on the former would be nice ,and yes i know its a sbt forum ,but would be nice anyway .

About the "real bull terrier" I think he means the type- not the specific breed/bloodline; i.e. the real bull and terriers are ones that historically fought in the pit.
LOLOLOL @ game sharpeis! Wake up, wake up, Are you dreaming?!?
Any of the above mentioned bull and terrier breeds would CONSISTENTLY stop even the best Sharpeis. Bulldogs are game because they were bred to be, greyhounds are fast because they were bred to be, and sharpeis have the cutest wrinkles because they were bred to :D:rolleyes::D:rolleyes::D:rolleyes::D

lol at sharpei's just being bred to be cute, how do you know they arent being used for what they were bred for in their place of origin.

They might be, but I still stand by this statement - historically speaking.

:rolleyes:You are right the the pit dogs in England did not just appear out of thin air it took hundreds of years of breeding even the romans took dogs back to Europe with them;) And ended up being lots of dif breds across Europe after being crossed with breeds in other countries look it up.And you mean appearing out of thin air like the irish pit dog did:p
