    Hey all...great board

Just joined................I was wondering if my english staffordshire is the correct weight for it's age, he's 17 weeks old and weighs 12.1kg.
Thought that the breeder might have been thinking he was too big to show (this doesn't worry me)...........I have owned pitbull's but not a staffy.........I have seen quite a bit of the same behaviour / temperment with perhaps less drive in the staffy.

Got a good deal on him, here in NZ,i paid $120 pounds, good pedigree from a breeder of 48 years can trace his lines right back pre-1937.....hopefully he'll turn out as good as my pitbull was, would have rather got a working line staffy but there are none that I know here in NZ, just pitbulls.

    Thanx, Sid.

For a showbred staffy I would say that was heavy since as an adult he,ll probably weigh at least 20 kilos.

yeh thats what I thought might be going to happen..........I was thinking even more, around 23kg, bit on the big side, but at the price I'll not complain...........this was from an outbreeding.
The main thing is that he has alot of drive.............he's definately agile, he's all over the place.
Got a pic of him at 8 weeks, I'll have to get another later today.

My so called "Irish" staff with an adult weight of 20kg, kind of thin but not really ripped to the bone, at the age of 4 months was significantly lighter, do not really remember but I estimate 10kg or less.

let the pup be a pup and dont worry about weight. free feed him with essential and necessary food until 1 year or year and half, then you worry about keeping him in good nick (to each his own, at least thats what i do). best dogs i've had got'em as a bargain or free. the breeder did the pup a favor by keeping him out of the showring. do your part and keep him active and let him be a stafford and raise him as one.

Yeh I feed him pretty good, mixture of raw meat and quality puppy kibble, mates have greyhounds so I'll be using the beef mince that they use, just add vege's calcium etc.
Starting to wonder if feeding alot of chicken mince is a good idea, all those hormones might make him bigger heheh.
yeh, I don't push my dogs too young.....let em be a pup.

Never seen an Irish staff, none here, but sounds like this pup will be on the bigger side then..........don't mind it really, being from show stock he might get a longer leg with the extra size, which I wouldn't mind.

You get freaks every now and again. My male stafford ended up being 18.5" tall with a much longer leg than usual. The breeders were pretty upset because it meant I couldn't show him anymore (he was always heaps bigger than the other dogs) but I couldn't be happier with him.

yeh, alot of the dogs that wouldn't make a show standard are actually better than the ones that do make the grade...........typical of the kennel clubs........all show no go.
I met 2 dogs of show standard the other day while walking my pup, they looked like pot bellied pigs, heheh, I'll take my dog on larger side with longer legs anyday.

hey yeh thats about the same colour, looks though he good length of leg.....I'll be happy if he turns out like that.
after owning a pitbull for quite some time, I'd much rather have a leggy staffordshire with a little less bulk, makes for a better all round dog I think.
will be interesting to see how he compares to my old pitbull, he was a cracker of a dog.

as others have said already just let it grow and see what you end up with not much else you can do is there? my bitch is 17" and 20kg in good fit condition and drive that outdoes a lot of so called working dogs, id sooner have a bit of a bigger non show standard dog than a keg on legs.

51/2 months old and 15.9kg, heheh, must be all this raw meat I feed him.......i hate the commericial food, I can but raw beef or chicken at $2NZ a kg, thats around 80cents of your euro.
shit he's already reaching the show limit weight, so what a krok of shite that is, so long as he's steady and brave he'll do................the biggest downer is I signed a contract to neuter him...........so freezing might be me..heheh always a way.

17.3kg now at 6 months, must be steriods in the meat I feed him.........I can see a 25kg dog if this keeps up..........somuch for wanting a small staffy.
My last amstaff/pitbull reached 48kg, so either I always get lumbered with the big pups or This raw diet and plenty of play time makes em muscle up and countsfor something.
