Crufts date for Staffordshire Bull Terrier Ginny

    A BERRIEDALE dog breeder has earned a place at the most prestigious dog competition in the UK.

    Judith Perham will be taking part in Crufts next year after her Staffordshire bull terrier bitch, Ginny, won third prize at a championship dog show in Stonehaven at the end of August.

    Mrs Perham said that she and her husband, Samuel, are ecstatic about taking part in the internationally renowned event.

    "Just to set a foot in that ring will be a dream come true," said Mrs Perham.

    "We're over the moon, it's a lifetime ambition to breed a dog that would eventually make it to Crufts.

    "It'll mean the world to me to take her into the arena and know that we brought her into the world and raised her. Whether we come away with anything or not, it'll be an accomplishment."

    Mrs Perham and Ginny will be heading to the Birmingham NEC in March next year to take part in the Staffordshire bull terrier class where the dog will compete under her Kennel Club name, Jusamstaff Bow and Bangle.

    Mrs Perham admitted the breed sometimes gets a bad reputation but she takes careful steps to avoid giving the dogs to unsuitable owners.

    "We breed for good temperament and we also only breed the dogs if there is demand for them, and carefully vet everyone who seeks to buy from us," she said.

    "They are actually very nice dogs, but quite often get a bad reputation.

    "In reality they are very loyal and playful animals."

    except for the English bulldog (and maybe E.B.T) can anyone think of a dog that's been damaged by show fairies as badly as the stafford has?

    I think your question should have been can you think of any breed that is not damaged or has been ruined by the Kennel Club. ;)

    That's more like it.non of the show dogs look like their working counter parts.you will find diff in looks size shape coat ect.

    breed's it hasnt wrecked are the ones still worked,gundogs all hound's (i think the whippet for example may have died out if it werent for them) collie's etc although whether its damaged those breed's i dont know.

    but the breed's they've really destroyed seem to be from the working class root's;english bulldog and much all the terrier's they have registered including stafford's and e.b.t's

    Thats because the kennel club here does'nt reconise the breed and the american kennel club only reconised the breed this year.So they have'nt had time to mess with what they call their standards of the breed,like making its head bigger ,shorter in the leg etc. Given a number of years down the line and the corsa will go the way most KC (registered ) breeds have gone.

    met ken davis many moons ago at crufts over a pint. Asked him blatantly if he had to put his house on a match between SBT & pit, said he would on DILLENGER or GRIP @ 32 lbs.

    This was in the late 80's.........not sure if he is above ground but was the only judge in the STAFF world worth a carrot......or should I say leek!:dogkiss:
