I know this is technically a Patterdale area of the website. but i also know theres a bunch of hunters so my question to you hunters is what would you say the best terrier is at any individual job.. by this i mean what would yall wanna have if yall were Badger hunting or Raccoon hunting and so forth.. Jack Russell, Patterdale,Border, Plummer , or Jagd terrier? now im a complete rookie to hunting with terriers so dont bite my head off..Also which would you say a new comer should start with thanks again guys.

I think it's more important to take a look at the breeder, than at the race.
In my area the Patterdale Terrier has the highest percentage of workers, than Jagd Terrier and than Jack Russel. I've heard about good Borders, but never seen one. Most of them are from show-lines.
But I'm located in West Europe.
There can be a big difference between West Europe, East Europe, USA.........
Visit some breeders, take a look at their dogs, how they works and than you have your answer.

Seriously , it all depends on the stock and who it comes from, the fella that gave me my first bulldog as a kid, use to have upto 20 foxies that for fifty years or so had been bred and used only for rural farm work and nothing else, the fella was a hardcore gambler and alky, everytime he owed my dad any substantual cash he would give us a dog. I couldnt care what anyone says these little fuckers would give any pat a run for its money, we had issues with them around submissive dogs they were niggily little shits that would allways start shit with our others then walk away happy once the other dogs were scrapping.
But get these buggers on the earth and they were nearly faultless with the right schooling which was the most important thing.
IE. my brother got two and both of them fuckers would stay down the warren and eat any young that was down there and he would have to wait for them to come out.
Dads dogs did their job perfectly and not once were we held up because of the dogs, they would even bring the kittens out unscathed like they were its own pups.
After the old man got them for a couple of months they were fine.
we have had a couple of others from a different line which were culled in two months they looked the part but had the brains of a pea.

as said it depends on the line more than breed but 'hard' dogs will struggle if you work them regularly because they'll pick up a lot of injuries and have a short working life.

As blanch said above,it depends on the line. But a great all-rounder and %wise you cant beat a good Patterdale/Lakeland terrier.IMO.

hard dog's dont equal good worker's imo, just smashed up terrier's who can't be worked regularly because of constant injuries.

I feel I would go with Jagd or Patterdale since they generally are kept by people that work them...from kennels I have seen via internet:o.

TheIII, Great working pack!I take my hat of to ya.Id rank the Jagd with the Patts/Lakelands,Ive just had no experience with them. What ive seen of them on you-tube they look well up for it!Very energetic. The lighter coloured dog at the front looks a lot like a working Lakeland.Does the breed throw up this type often?Nice strong-dog to!Good to see dogs doing what they bred to do!Nice1.
