I think what I miss most is the men. Most of them gave a good dog credit, even if they didn't like the breeding and were way more honest than later generations.

Roberto Duran quit v's Sugar Ray Leonard and he still a 'hall of fame' fighter and deservedly so.. CH.Klogger quit v's Charlie and I still rate him as one of the best dogs I ever saw, He defeated CH.Pirate and Scar Kennels Max who went on to win his championship.. It's a testament to Klogger's greatness that even at one hour it could still have gone either way but Charlie was killing him, Klogger knew it and he chose to quit rather than die.. Charlie was an ace head dog that switched to the throat of a weakened opponent to finish them quick.. Klogger faced Charlie going for his Grand Championship and on any other day against any other dog I'm sure he'd have won.. I heard all the stuff about Bullyson, Finlay's Bo, etc etc all being curs, well I'd take 100 curs just like them.. CH.Klogger was great because he lasted 1:17 against Charlie.. The same camp came back at Charlie with a Nelis bred 2xw called Sundance supposedly even better than Klogger.. Sundance got picked up in 23 minutes to save his life..

yes blueboy I agree , he held back on females to avoid others having males and females of his so they wouldn't be completion in pup sales, but there were plenty of reid dogs walking the streets, by far more reid blood walking the streets than any other line ,and that means plenty of sales and to plenty of idiots also .

Didn't realise klogger was going for his grand championship oldguy .... as you say klogger etc were all top class dogs but on the day just came up against a better opponent ....

Have to agree Klogger was a way better than average dog, there's not that many dogs out there that are dead game. His rep was such that many well known dogmen I know avoided him with their good dogs like the plague. Klogger must have alot of time under his belt, it always seemed to me when I spoke of him, he was getting rolled once or twice a month. That's not to discredit Charlie in anyway, as all credit goes to them for going into Klogger, not many would've at that time and some thought them mad to do so lol.

if you import a dog or just have a dog,,it's your dog just like your car is your car....if you breed a litter off pups and own the bitch that means you bred them..your dogs/pups...if you sell one..it's not yours but the new owners,,but the breeder will all-ways be the breeder...it's not hard to figure..if you show the dog and it do's well then you get cred for showing the dog and the breeder gets crd for breeding the dog..the crd that go's to the breeder off your say foundation dog will+do's all-ways go the breeder off said dog,,when you breed this dog to other dogs then your the breeder of your pups and you get breeders crd for your pups...............simple

in other words it don't matter if it was just plain luck or not..he is and will be all-ways the breeder off these dogs..even if it hurts other peoples EGO..the only one that knows if it was luck or planed is the breeder him/her/self..........

Why on earth has Reid's name got to be attached to Hagar, Yogi, Curstopper or any subsequent dog for? That's utter nonsense. Fact is Reid didn't want his dogs to go to dogmen which why he would advertise them as American "Pet" bull terriers.

..."was your ego hurt"...if he bred these dogs then theres no changeing that he gets breeders crd...just like you would if you bred them,,"but ya did'nt"..if you showed them well ya get crd for that.......thats the way it is/was and will i guess all-ways be....

I'd have to have an ego for it to be hurt. Reid gets peddlers credit and that's it. ALL the credit goes to the men who put the time and effort into making those dogs and the subsequent generation's what they were. Even back then they were known as Skipper dogs, it's only the later generations that started calling em Reid dogs.

...i'll put it this way...skipper dogs ,,reid dogs..call them what ya want..the breeders crd go's to ed reid...and this is comeing from one off those that showed and worked some of his..many years ago...if he had not bred or imported them things would be different but he did.. ..i'll leave it at that...breeders crd go's to the breeder.....

My intention was never to guard the reputation of Ed Reid, he's old and ugly enough to do that for himself but the dogs he bred, and the dogs bred down from them were dismissed and disregarded in the UK for decades and I could never understand that? Jim Wesley, Glenn Stubblefield, Ace Freeman and Bob Wise.. These are the men Ed has to thank for giving him access to such fine brood stock in America.. Scar Kennels, Yarrakin Kennels, Northern Lad, Scotsman, Junkyard Boys and a few others are the men Ed has to thank for making their reputation here.

The first dogs Reid breed the Capone/wise crosses were the ones that earned that reputation. Most were uncompetitive even sbt's lb for lb had little trouble with them. Many were unathletic plugs it's these early dogs that earned them the reputation. It was the infusion of Skipper blood that brought the competitiveness back into them, but the reputation had already been earned, and was hard to shake of. As only a small percentage of Skipper dogs ever did well.
