Find me a glock built like an Ed Brown 1911 and i will buy it. I've owned glocks, XD, and some cheaper 1's. I like my 1911's, because i like to fuck with my guns. If you want a gun that is ready to go fresh out the box and doesnt need alot of maintaining a glock is the way to go probably. But if you got some time and like to fiddle with guns like i do, the 1911 is golden. The reason i say this is because a glock is good in its basic model. But most 1911's that are basic are only like this so you can customize them as you see fit. Your basic 1911 is just a shell of what it will be later down the line. You can buy a 1911 that comes with the extras and be good to go, but the point is customization to your own liking and not someone elses. If you want one fresh out the box that u dont gotta fk with, glock is good. If you got some money and like to modify, 1911 will be just as good or better because u built it to your liking.

I'm really suprised nobody said colt AR 15. To me it's the only way to go. Harder to come by and usually cost a little more but man anything the gov issues and then says they don't want them open to the public anymore, I want it. Mine ain't never let me down. My brother had one we shot so much it was throwing em all over the place. NEVER JAMMED. And we liked to just spray rounds once it didn't shoot straight anymore. The action was still golden.

Colt, Noveske, Dan Def, and LMT are my picks if price is no matter.

CMMG is the best bargain AR. For almost 500 bucks less than the above, you can use that towards WASR-10 and have the top 2 battle rifle platforms of all time for around 1.5k.

kimber ultra cdp II; used to carry it, didn't feel comfortable with it. to big and bulky, and with a 3 in bull barrel it was hard to get back on target in a reasonable amount of time.....it was fucking impossible to shoot a stop drill with one. and like someone made with the sports car analogy, i was always worried about something going wrong with this pistol i nearly had to take a mortgage out on. thank god they have high resale value.

also have a full size s&w 1911 for shits and giggles.....totally not the logical choice for a concealed carry. but very accurate and fun to shoot.

i go back and forth between my h&k usp compact (chambered in 9mm) and my g19 when i carry.

and i don't want to hear people complain about "oh this round is better than that caliber, etc etc" because the 9mm round has killed more people worldwide since WWII than any other size round.

and to the guy who said his buddy had several tours....ask them what they typically kill people with; NOT their own weapons they carry. they are much more inclined to take a downed enemies weapon so then there's no questions if they have all their rounds accounted for if something is being looked in to. my brother (usmc) has an issued 1911, and he says he RARELY ever unholsters it; same with my cousin, who is still in the sandbox. and not every grunt in the marine corp. gets a .45 issued, that's mostly reserved for officers to my understanding.

I believe a 9mm is more of a penetrating round too but I'm not trying to go through, just in and I wanna knock em down.

Anybody like rock river arms? I've heard some good but very little info on them. And Barrett?

    Barrett rifles are very nice.
RRA has got some decent govt contracts but i would say they are mid teir. But if your just shooting at paper theyre fine.
LMT, Colt, BCM, DD, Noveske are all very nice

if you are drawing your weapon, you better plan on killing your target; otherwise you don't need to be carrying. this isn't directed at you yardboy, just a general statement. ;)

the only accessories or mods you should do to your gun is adjust the sight and buy lots of ammo. if you are already shelling out 500 up to the sky for a pistol, wouldn't you buy one ready to go? who wants to buy a car and then have a sunroof cut into it? or a stereo replaced? etc etc

practice is worth more than any crap you can strap to your gun. but i do have a specter gear cst sling, 6 shot side saddle, and a surefire g3 on my mossberg 590a1 hd, but a shotgun/home defense weapon is a different story.

Killing the target is exactly why I don't want to penetrate all the way through. I don't want that wound clotting back up. I want the biggest mushroom head I can get lodged right up in the spine. Not knocking a 9mm. by no means but if you research the .45 round and it's origin you'll see what I mean.........knock em down.

i agree 100%CK. the only accessory that gets put on any firearm i own is a weaponlight. i take that back, i have a couple revolvers with Crimson Trace grips, but thats more for my 14 year old daughter. she knows how to use iron sights of course, but the grips do up her hits. my 870 has the Surefire forend, and thats it. no bells and whistles needed here. i tried the weapon light idea on my G17 bedside gun but i never felt comfortable "looking around" by pointing my pistol. goes back to the "never point a gun at something you arent willing to destroy" teaching. i keep a 9P Surefire bedside just in case im awoken by my daughter getting up scavenging around in the kitchen...i can identify with out fanning a pistol in her face:D...as for the whole 9mm vs 45 argument, that gap is closing in every year with better bullet technology. my 9mms are all loaded with +P+ hydra shoks, if you doubt them, youre a fool.

thats COMPLETE HORSESHIT YB, all handguns are underpowered. and the .45 knockdown shit is a myth. folks hopped up on dope have taken round after round and kept charging. its more about bullet placement, and ill hit someone twice as many times in the vitals with my "puny" 9mm than you will with the flying ashtray....the .45. follow up shots mean alot more imo than "knockdown power". you realize that a quality 9mm round will expand to nearly the dimensions of a .45.... it sounds like you pass on hearsay and havent studied up on real life shootouts. a ball load of any calibre will overpenetrate, but a again its about proper ammunition for the job. back to the AR discussion, i wouldnt waste my money on a RRA, government contracts dont mean squat, the gov. always give the low bidder the contract. Barret on the other hand, i like them alot. top quality well made firearms

don't need to study it I've recovered rounds from the hillside and never seen a nine come close to the size of the .45. Like I said, 9 is a great round but I'd rather not go through all the way into the next room. 45 doesn't penetrate as well so I hit my target and hopefully not go through the walls like a nine will.

In this case the 45 penetrated more

i dont feel to threatened by dirt mounds YB, check out bullet performance in ballistic gelatin. thats alot more realistic to performance in soft tissue

That was a good read, thanks for posting. I was impresses by that spread on the 9 mm but it was still a good bit smaller. I had an XD nine. I liked it but not as much as my .40 cal walther and nowhere near as much as my .45.
