  3. I own an American Staffordshire and American Pit Bull Terrier
This is my first Am-staff. I have owned gamebred pit bulls my whole life.
There are VERY VERY subtle differences.
She isnt very game (but then again .. some pits arent either)
    Blue nose,Blue eyes,Blue coat
    She is thicker more "bully"
She WONT springpole (but then again some pits never do)
Swims like a fish (some dogs do.. Some refuse to go in water)

As far as the body goes.. She has a little longer snout and a smaller more anguar head.

From what I can tell.. Any Am staff that isnt registered with one of the old boodlines is PROBABLY a mixed breed american bully. They register TONS of those mutts with American Staffordshire papers. ITs changing the breed.

my personal experience with staffords: I wouldn't wipe my own arse with one!
but that's just what i have seen but i would say that's what about 90% of what people own round here.KEGGS ON LEGS!!!!! :D As far as i know American Staffs were never good enough to enter the pit.i agree with reids on that one.

  9. am staffs arent bred to work anymore nor have they been in almost 70 years any amstaff with a long ped lacks much drive and definatly isnt game, generally they have huge bones and are like 30-60 lbs over weight so i dont believe they are the same, a true apbt is generally compact and quick not all big and bulky like a pig xD

there are always exceptions to the rules though, they have that DNA in the breed and I've seen some Amstaffs that would go like a pitbull, few and far between though..............they are thrown in some litters, just like some pitbull litters never have a good pup in them.

  11. true enough. ive heard of ONE am staff that took 3 proven dogs before a defeat but its so rare, lol

yeah this thread was started about Stafford and Pitbulls, not American Staffords.

Look at the other sections in the stafford section. Amstaffs are no longer used nor were realy ever used as gamedogs the stafford still is in some parts.

  13. o i didnt think of that, being amstaffs were bred from old pit dogs i just assumed haha sry

    IMO :

I will have to agree with you, I been around AKC amstaffs and UKC apbt and then finally saw some ADBA gamebred dogs a few years ago. I know the UKC and AKC dogs better since I been going to AKC/UKC dog shows for over 14 years.

Not all but most Amstaffs lack drive and that spark in the eye I see apbts have. They are more mellow if you would say. Most amstaff breeders I know and have talk to find dog aggression as a FAULT. These breeders have been breeding dogs that are not hot on purpose. Does this mean you will never find an amstaff that is game or DA ? NO !

I know one breeder in my area who put her prized amstaff down because he was too game and DA for her , she could not control him anymore around her other dogs so she put him to sleep.

Another breeder I know sent some amstaffs to my friends kennel ( he is a dog handler) and her dogs where all DA he had to separate them and never let them around his other dogs. One of the dogs did get in a fight with his UKC apbt and he had to break them up ( this was before he knew the amstaffs would cause trouble)

There are some amstaff lines out there that are just DA and these usually seem to be the lines that are more of the terrier look. I also do not know what Burger is talking about saying american bullys are AKC blue hippos ....

Now back to Staffys I never seen a working Staffy because I am not into this breed really ( saw the one someone posted in this thread), but I will say I never seen a staffy bull that could pass for a apbt.

They have round heads extreme short necks and are short backed similar to a good amtaff. The picture that was posted showing the staffy and chinaman IMO I can tell which is which. Like some one else stated the body structure is completely different.

The Amstaffs they have in Europe is differant to the one's over in the US, if you look on Youtube you will see lots of AmStaff vids from Lithuania/Poland etc. doing the same kind of springpole and jumping as Pits :o

This one has a staffy head and rear this one is a good example thanks for sharing :) First time for everything hehehe If this dogs forelegs where shorting i would be 100% convinced :D

Staffys are more compact I wanted to add this to my other post : Staffys also have little angulation in the rear I have seen some with no angulation.

Yeah I saw videos before , Europeans seem to breed better dogs IMO ( depending on breed) ;) This is why amstaff breeders in USA are now importing from europe lol Some of the amstaffs I have seen in europe look 100% better than the amstaffs I have been seeing at my local shows. Some times I wonder how in the hell did some of these amstaffs here in USA are like in the top 25 breed standing and they look like crap smh.

I seem to like staffys from other countries too. ) just based on what I seen on the net.

I just imported a dog from Europe I could not find any breeders in USA with the qualities I found over seas ( not apbt or bully breed tho ;) )
