  1. i knew a dogman when i was a teenager that allways said that some of the best bulldogs were not registered..he has passed 20 yrs ago but i learned alot from him and most of his dogs were registered but he said alot of great dogmen would not register their dogs because their strain were so gaurded.. has anyone else ran into this or heard of it???maybe this was something of the real old days because he was like 75 when i knew him>>>

honestly when the time comes and i start my yard up ill prolly not register the dogs, but i will do the online ped printout just to see what they consist of and what works well for them, more for reference purposes. anything i produce from there will be recorded by hand!

A good dog is a good dog is a good dog.... Papers or no papers HE is either good OR nickle... way to many people give a PASS to a dog that has a good pedigree... but will hardly give a un papered dog break...

good point bobby, but dont you feel that a pedigree gives you a little background and can be a good reference if you decide to breed him?

I rather have a good dog to be proud of over a good piece of paper ;) sure history and background is an advantage towards breeding but referring back to my statement, which one would you rather come home to at the end of the day and be proud of?

There's a difference between not registering your dogs and not knowing the dogs pedigree. If believe how the dog is bred to be true or know for a fact how the dog is bred then there's not really any point in registering your dogs unless your going to try to sell pups to the public or show or pull the dog.

like i said, the unknown dog may be an A1 performer. and if thats all you want him for than thats great.
    but
lets say you wanted to breed him, id much rather have a dog of known lineage when breeding that way you can test and see what it "clicks" with. without knowing what the dog consists of, you dont really know what to cross him with because you dont know what he is or what blood he's from.
now im not saying that the pedigree has anything to do with how good the dog is.
but when it comes to breeding i feel its a handy reference.

thats why i said anything that i produce in the future will be registered with handwritten records.

and i plan on doing some kind of competition in the future with my dogs. just havent figured it out yet.

I have 3 litter of pups right now,2 registered and 1 that's not.I honestly have just as much hopes for the unregistered dogs as the registered ones. The dog has the same breeding behind it whether ADBA will mail you a nice fancy ped printed out or not.I like fancy peds as much as the next guy but in the end it's the quality of the dog that really counts.

It's definitely a handy reference but sometimes you know how the dog is bred and just haven't sent the registration papers off.

A good dog is a good dog!! That's true, I'm just not wasting my time if I don't have paperwork in hand. I've been around some great dogs over the years and help breed some serious bulldogs. But I will not waste my time putting any dog on my yard without papers. I don't care if he is champion or not, cur or game. I'm not relying on no ones word in this game. That hand written pedigree stuff is not for me. Granted, registration papers are never 100% accurate, but without it, there is no other peace of mind that a person can give me to put my time into a non papered animal. JMO

If you REALLY know where your dogs come from you know where they come from.
