Yes, Clarence, you are hurting your dog with that kind of harness if you are pulling much weight at all.

Please get a proper WEIGHT-PULLING harness.

Also, let the dog ALSO enjoy part of his workouts without having to pull ALL the time. He needs to just enjoy being a dog on a walk without having to work all the time. You can sour him by ONLY pulling on a walk.

I still wouldn't dare pull with that. You can ruin your dog and harm him much further by using improper equipment.

If you contact the folks who make WP harnesses, a lot of them will take payments and send the harness out when they get the final payment.

Thanks! He's a helluva dog. Thankfully, we didn't have to work on form - he had that naturally!

Says who? bigboy69? You don't have a clue. By around 6 months these dogs are ready for the fundamentals of weight pull ( light drag work ) and by 1 to 1.5 years they should be ready to compete if they have had the proper conditioning and training. That is why all major weight pull organizations allow dogs to compete by 1 year of age.

my boy turned 1 year old the other day and when he pulls the tyre his head is down he arches his back and drives into very hard such a strong powerful little dog and i agree with WAR PAINT if there in good condition it is no diffrent to when you game test a dog at a year old

You wouldnt game test a dog (not that you would anyway nowadays) at a year old mate you would give them a 'bump' to see if they 'started'

I would not have a dog pull heavey weight until his growth plates are fully developed. If you do, you're asking for trouble in the future.

I would go to Brown Dog Harnesses and get an appropriately fitted harness for starters.. Make sure you have a good handwalk down with your pup, and a good bond for foundation, and get to work with him. Use common sense in working him on drag weight, but I think a good, formal training imprint is a healthy start in any training venue. Weight Pulling is no exception.. Good luck and happy training.

Yer right -- a little pain for these dogs is the idea....who the hell cares?

He's doing so well, has such great form, equipment don't matter at all, he'll pull through the pain and discomfort-- right? That's what they are supposed to do, right? Good test for him...

    Idiots.
