Which do you prefer, Norton or MacAfee?

MacAFee has done none of my computers justice. I had a trial version of Norton that I didn't mind, but it expired.

Right now Firefox is my sole internet condom and I've yet to have an issue with viruses.

  4. I use AVG good free protection you can buy the pro version but I've never had good luck with anything you can buy from any electronics store.

Avira Antivir personal along with Malwarebytes and using Firefox. I know instantly when somethings not right. Bought Norton and my pc guy said dump it. They have a contract with most pc companys and that's how they get added for the trial period.

Those package deals like Norton,Mcaffee are well known system hogs. Using such allows "them" to play big brother with your machine.Trend Micro is one of the WORST in the last few years, they were good back when they were a free program.

FireFox with its add-ons is pretty solid, for some reason I just cant get along with most of their programing

AVG or Avast is about as good as it gets when it comes to virus protection, the difference between these free programs and the over priced stuff like Norton's is so small the general public wouldn't understand if you "did" explain it to them. Again the price never has justified the performance or visa~versa.

Malwarebytes is a great tool for handling gremlins
Its a no BS approach with effective results.

CCleaner is another utility thats been around for some time and keeps getting better.
    Gutman* 35 pass file/free space wipe!
Where else can you find that kind of FREE Performance?
    Its FREE on CCLeaner

I use all three and have for several years each.
Their all FREE Shareware and can be found at
filehippo.com. The mirror sites for downloading run much faster then those on CNet,less chance of bad file transfer and issues with incomplete/failed like is common on CNet and the other popular places.

Ditch those Twinkie eating "fat-girl" programs
    and get your machine on "Lean",for F R E E!

I forgot to add CCleaner to the list. Great product.

  16. AVAST, COMODO SYSTEM CLEANER, and SPYBOT here. All free and work great.

Best av is nod32 norton and mcafee are total resource hogs like someone said, they use a lot of system cache space. basically you want programs with a small footprint to keep your comp running nicely.

Best advice? ANY anti virus program is only as good as its updates. nod 32 update 3 or 4 times per day they on top of the nasties however new viruses being put out everyday so think they only as good as their update schedule identifying and destroying.

CCLeaner <<excellent, they also have a free defragger called defraggler also very good. TNK is on the money!

btw I test and review performance hardware for major manufacturers its my job to know.;)

    TNK gave very good advice.

Nod32 is the best anti virus. You need to pay for it if your a "newbie" but, PM me if you want to know how to get it for free. No need to pay for this type of stuff if you know what your doing. I will give you a working login and password for it/serial that works. You just download it off the offical website(which I'll give you the link in a PM. Then change username and stuff when I give you it.. And thats pretty much it.

    You would go here.

    http://www.eset.com/download/index.php

Then click on " I have already purchased ..." and then download. Then It will ask you for a username and password, that you need to be able to download. And thats where I come into play. I will PM you a working username and password. I have many usernames and passwords that work. So if one doesnt work, I will pm you another..

I'll walk you through...., just drop me a PM if anyone wants to know.

And I also use CCleaner.. Its not an anti virius but it cleans alot of useless files on your computer. (cookies, temp files, etc.) I just use it before i shut my computer off to clean my cookies and temp files. Which you can get for free at http://www.ccleaner.com/download

there not all the same agk, they are only as good as their update team and feedback they get from customers or 'scouts' who identify new viruses.
eset nod 32m have an enthusiast following feeding back new possible threats, it also has a very small footprint meaning it uses less of your memory etc. this makes scans faster.

I have a theory about anti virus programs, if you were an anti virus maker, what would it be in your interest to do?.........put out a few viruses!:D that way you could say hey look we identified a new threat bla bla bla and the customer thinks wow im getting my monies worth are'nt they good!

NOD 32 don't do this I believe they are one of a very few commited to truly fighting viruses. just my 2 cents.
