Rufus my house dog and Lilbit don't play well together any more and tonight they got together and I had to grab Rufus by the nap of the neck, he don't like that and we had a little altercation with me having a little bleeding on the arm he made me bleed should I put him down?

I don't take to kindly to that shit but hes the same way with no dogs involved

Shon says put him down

If you haven't recently done so, you may want to have a vet check him out to make sure there is nothing physically wrong with him before making a final decision.

Marty,it sounds like a " excite biter" to me... If he's good around people in general there is no need for him to be c'd...but only you know your dog so if u think he drew blood for any other reason than excitement he should not be fed;)... Remember that we gotta do what's best for this breed and man biters should NOT be tolerated,we should only try and deal with the excite biters... I think that you can make a decent evaluation of your dog,.

Im sorry but if it would happen to me the dog would die right there and then. It might be harsh but NO man agression what so ever is allowed and tbh NEVER bite the hand that feeds you.. I wish you good luck on what to do..

  6. Marty, DIRT NAP............ Well all though you asked for our help its still not my situation. What is the dog worth to you emotionally, lets be honest financially as well being that he may be that valuable as a stud dog...Excite bit is really no excuse. If a dog is the box you should be able to go in a touch that bulldog with him turning on you, that's one of the points I use when defending our breed.(I know you weren't in the box just for clarification). He does it when there is no dogs around as well? I hate to say dirt nap but that may be the answer..

Comrad, what ever you do we are with you and have trust in your judgement...who knows your dogs better than you.

Geeze marty, you should know anyone else could answer that for ya.
Was it just a quick turn around “mouth” and then back to focusing on the other dog?
Or was it a complete turn around and bite down with eyes on you?
My personal feelings eg;, if it was my dog, and is genuinely mellow around people, can handle a bit of ruff play and takes it in his stride, never done this before and at all times was focused on the other dog and was just a mouth(as if to say let me go at it) and it was straight forward like that, then no I would not cull.
On the other hand if he has done the full turn around, eye balled me and bit down, then I would cull,no questions. That is not a cool headed dog, maybe not what I would call a man biter, as a man biter will just bite lol. A dog that is not cool headed is not desirable in my eyes.
I had one once that mouthed me a couple of times in excitement, drew blood but they were not puncture wounds, id call it grazes, she never turned around and bit, I knew what it was about, she was sound aside from that, but was not a house dog either. Two different circumstances here though and two different dogs, I know you know that
Something your going to have to decide brother.;)
and im sure you will work it out as soon as youve had time to think about it. its certainly not something i would be rushing into un less it was all out bite.

    I agree with D's!

I'd Put him on a chain spot see if his if his attitude changes after a few days.
I found that a house dog get more appreciative when out side for a few days 24/7 ,not in sight of the others tho! or its like a reward.

    JMO
( my theory is he considers you an equal not his master now!) "ut I wasn't there"

But like the other stated it your dog you will know whats best to do and like D's said give it a bit to ponder about it.

    D's Said:
"Was it just a quick turn around “mouth” and then back to focusing on the other dog?
Or was it a complete turn around and bite down with eyes on you?
" ["In this statement alone there is the difference between Meaning and Excitement"]

You said he has done this before Marty like what were the circumstances there if you don't mind sharing, does he run out of the living room and get you or What ?
    Just when he play's ruff?

Marty: did the dog re-direct onto you and then go back to LilBit? Also, as Nell Bells stated, you might want to make sure the dog has a clean bill of health with the vet.

Also, what about crate and rotate?

if he is so hot to get a hold of lil bit he snap you during the handle. dont put him down stradle, snatch, spin lol. if he is just a house dog not a stud & shown HA to you in the past put that MF in the ground ASAP.

Regardless of the WHY he did it, he displayed a UNSTABLE temperament, what makes a bulldog different Than any ol mutt curr or purebred shit eater is that when they get into scraps their mind is everywhere like OH SHIT ima bite anything and everything cuz I don't know WTF is going on.... A bulldog is not this way, even at the highest level of stress a BULLDOG remains focused and does NOT freak out OR redirect!!

He has shown you to be mentally UNSTABLE and thus is NOT a true BULLDOG by the traits he has displayed.... That's just how I see it... I have put decent dogs down for much less.

rooster some guys dont mind a manbiter you just handle them different .some of the best would bite the handler it just happens they want what they want. if you put them down there would be no chinaman, bb red, ajax, happy jack, bullyson, the list goes on. in a way the best are unstable they will do anything to get what they want.MARTY sleep on it take a real good look at your dog & decide if you can live with the dog. if you can put him on a chain away from danger .If not put him the ground.

doesn't sound to me like he immediately realized what was happening and he reacted incorrectly. if he were to have bitten you for no reason at all, i'd put a bullet in his head. like they were saying though, sounds like redirect, so maybe you can curb that behavior. i've had it happen, put my foot in the dog's ass, now he don't do it. if he chooses to put his teeth on you again, then i think he'll have made the choice of what to do for you. some bulldogs do get too excited and don't realize who else is involved in the situation. you put your foot in his ass when he does it, he'll always remember who you are and where you are. in the end, it's your dog and you'd be best to assess whether or not it's likely he was aiming at you or the dog. good luck marty!

Marty I wasn't there so I can't help you make that call, no one other than you guys knows the exact situation. I can tell the rest of the people on this post that this dog has played with my little girl from the time she was 3, she has hugged him, played tug with him, grabbed him and done just about anything else a small child would and I have never once seen any sign of aggression in any form. Maybe it' due to his getting older as many dogs tend to get a bit cranky with age. My vote goes to save him unless it was an out right aggressive attack, as a re-direct in a situation like that can and will happen even with the best dogs. :)

This is a good answer but do you take the chance of it happingin again??? what if next time its a kid or someone else in the house trying to break it up? Will the dog show the same respect to them? Just something to concider.... thats a tuff decision to make.

If the dog was able to lay eyes on you before he snapped then I would put one between his eyes...if he didn't see you I would say leave him be...

Ok I ain't putting this dog down for that, I did grab him kinda ruff and he don't like you grabbing his skin... This was my fault and he didn't bite me that hard, and yes he turned right back to Lilbit, alls good :p

I woke up this morning with a face full of Rufus... he was laying on my pillow with me :)
