So I got my first run-in with the police for my AmStaff

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by asilaydyingxxx, Aug 11, 2008.

  1. I am not aiming this at anyone in particular, I am merely stating my opinion here. I know this is a serious issue and I learned my lesson that night. But what's the need for putting other people down and talking down to them on here? I thought this was a safe place to learn and grow and show others what this breed is truly capable of being (which in my opinion is the best breed of dog in the world =) I don't know, I guess I am just saying that I am kind of disappointed because I feel like I posted this to share a life lesson I learned and instead of getting any kind criticism I just got burned @ the stake and basically called an idiot. Not ALL of you talked to me like that, but you know who you are and I am not here to argue over the internet about this. I'm sorry for sharing my story because it doesn't get me anywhere in a positive direction, and thank you to those of you who stuck up for me. I really do appreciate it! Thanks!

Normally I wouldn't really care about anyone calling their dog an AmStaff, lol, but you're dog isn't really.... He's show-bred, but not AKC blood.

Don't let it get you riled up man. people like to sit behind the comfort of their computers and talk sh*t to people they have never met. arrogance reigns supreme on the net. some people on here think they are the only ones responsible enough to own this breed, which obviously is not true. and reading books? you gotta be kidding me. how about some real life experience? best teacher in the world. no one is perfect and we all have made mistakes.

and colby dogs, i wasn't the one who picked apart every damn sentence in my post. my one post should not be misconstrued as something it wasn't. however, i also agree that if the OP doesn't or hasn't learned something from this incident (which i think he has) than it would certainly be appropriate to move on to something like a lab LOL.

again, i feel your lesson was learned, and like i said in my FIRST post, it could have been worse. keep that in mind. i don't agree with everyone's opinion, but this IS STILL AMERICA and i respect the right of everyone to have an opinion. even if it is grossly misguided and arrogant. LOL! :D

Dick move, yes. Lesson learned, good. Stories and lies about bullshit fights, retarded. You do have a cool handle though. I prefer bury your dead. YIS, DJ.

  5. Alright so lesson learned about not letting your dog off the leash. My first thought however is be it AST, APBT, AMSTAFF, BULLY whatever there is still going to be somewhere in some amount possible DA. You already stated he does not back down so what if a neighbor had been walking a dog or another dog off leash had shown up? Could be very bad. Did your neighbor overreact, probably but all this could have been avoided. Good lesson learned.

So what your saying is the registries determine the breed? If someone has a dual registered dog with akc and adba does that mean they have a AST when they show at akc shows and a apbt when at adba shows? IMO no thats just what the akc regcognizes you determine the breed thru the ped regardless of the registry.

    Ma'am,

I commend you for being smart enough to realize when you are wrong.

    PS.
As for raining on ones parade... I was taught early in my life by a wise old man,
" The rain falls on the just and unjust alike."

No, I agree (partly)... if I understand you correctly. The registry determines what breed you call the dog. The pedigree determines what it really is.... but that's where it comes down to opinion and everyone has a different one. ((With these dogs, to me, you either have a gamebred APBT, a show-bred APBT, an AST, or an American Bully; not just an APBT or a Staff.))

  16. You are one of the few responding maturely and I appreciate it. I agree, it is only a good experience if you learn from it - experience really IS the best teacher. =)

I'm still confused about your answer, you say the registry determines what breed you call the dog. The pedigree determines what it really is....
Why not call it what it is because the registry might not recognize the breed as its known (ie...AKC Amstaff, UKC, ADBA the ped is what its classified as or if its really is an APBT. What I'm saying is that AKC does not recognize our breed. So with that being said you can have anytype of bulldog with lets just say a eli breeding to them its an Amstaff. So is that what you would call it or would you go by the ped? So just because you have a AKC dog does not make it a diffrent breed.

I better call pizza hut....because either the shrooms on my pizza were hallucinogenic or I am missing out on something completely

    What is a Show-Bred APBT ?

If it was bred for "show" then it ceases to be an APBT, and becomes a Staff, or AST whichever you prefer.

APBT's are bred for "go" and the conformation is judged by its ability to perform.

    Hope you understand....

  19. Took the words right out of my mouth =)

  20. "The pedigree determines what it really is.....but that's where it comes down to opinion and everyone has a different one."

Could you explain this one for me? To my understanding, the pedigree is what it is, and you cannot just have an opinion on what YOU think it is. It is what it is and that's it. At least to my knowledge. What is a "show-bred APBT?" And what about just the Staffordshire Terrier? To my knowledge, they are shorter and stockier than the American Staffordshire Terrier. Enlighten us, please.
