I really didn't want to post this :(

they are lucky to have a good owner most people who own dogs i do not think would have tried as hard as you did i mean you drove an hour and half from work to help your dog. its a funny thing it seems that all the people i have met that are in these dogs always seem to be such devoted owners to bad that there are idiots that own this breed to.

 

Thanks everyone for the prays, they seem to be working... I called the vet this morning and no change, I called back this afternoon and she was a little better... he said she can't come home till she eats though, Damn I miss my baby :o

 

Man, that sucks. Good thing you caught it when you did or it could have been a hell of alot worse. You've got my prayers boss.

 

Sorry to hear that Marty, everything should work itself out with modern medicine and all. I wouldn't wish parvo on anybody, we lost a good dog growing up to parvo. My thoughts are with you and yours.

 

Ok, today theres good news and bad news, AVA started eating this morning and AKA jr stopped... so AVA is at home now and AKA jr took over her kennel at the vets office, I got a call from Nancy this morning about jr not eating and had to come home again and take him in

 

Hopefully its nothing. Keep youre fingers crossed.

Hope he pulls through for you Marty.I've only had 3 dogs in the past 8 years come down with parvo and havent lost one of them.I treated it myself with Tamiflu. You give 1 milligram per pound for 5 days then stop worked great for my dogs.

Wow Marty I'm sorry to hear that. My vet said that even a fully up-to-date-vaccinated dog can still get sick from the Parvo bug, especially in the south. About 10 years ago my 8 year old Corgi caught Parvo, and he'd been vaccinated every year. I hope everything works out

 

Damn Marty I'm sorry to hear about Jr. I'm glad Ava is doing better. I have not had to deal with this before so I could only imagen what you are going through. Just remember that no matter how bad things get god never gives us more then we can handle. Keep ya head up.

 

Sorry to hear about your dog getting parvo. Do you know how parvo got into your yard? This is not an ill-willed question by any means. I just want to learn how parvo could get into a close yard where all dogs are healthy. If you do not know, do you have any ideas?

Let us make this thread something we can all learn from. Can you share a healthy picture or two of the sick girl?

 

Well Marty, as I said about Ava earlier, she's a little older and you caught in in time looks like. Hoping he will pull through too. Just don't give up on them and I know you won't.

 

I don't know about Marty's yard impaticular....but there are lots of little critters that can carry parvo. Birds, mice, and other little animals can carry it on their feet and people can carry it in from their shoes.

 

I heard that cats are one of the main carriers of parvo. Not sure how true it is, but I definitely hate seeing a cat anywhere near my property...Cuddles (my lab/husky mix) had parvo as a pup. We got her from a shelter. She picked it up there, but she lived through it, and has been an extremely healthy dog since (she is now 14 years old).

 

Yeah there getting better, jr managed to get out of his kennel last night at the vets lol I don't know yet if he got into anything she just said he totted his fluids off

Parvo Virus is a very hardy virus. You can carry it on you, your clothes, your shoes. It can live in the environment for years. It can rain and wash in your yard. No telling where it actually came from. It is mutating constantly. We saw a fully vaccinated 1 1/2 year old dog 2 weeks ago at work get it and die. There is no telling.

Also the feline parvo virus is called panleukopenia (feline distemper). And it is not transfered to dogs it is similar in nature to the dog's parvo virus, however is only infectious to cats.
