it is time consuming and in my opinion that is the biggest pain in the ass about it. But like CB said it is well worth it and you will see a change in your dogs energy for sure (which is another reason why I feed in the summer, I want that mutt to keep up with me LOL) :dogdrink:

I got a lot of dogs and feeding raw all the time is sometimes difficult, I try my best tho, but sometimes they get whats on sale!
I'll pick up road kill if it aint to far gone. My friends get a kick outta that one! Where I live a lot of deer get hit by vehicles and by trains, I hate to see good meat go to waste!
My dogs can go through a 125 pound deer in one day!

cant knock you for a fresh killed deer, just gotta watch the bruised meat.. DNR 9 times outta 10 tells people that just hit a deer to take it home with them, no sense wasting the meat. Now if it was flat with tread marks pancaked on the road... lol

See and that what makes me even consider it... I know that meat is ideal for a dog so i'm trying to research it... and ive never heard of the prey diet... i guess you'd give it whole small animals???

yea i had a dog that would eat anything that i ate... apples oranges watermelon ice anything if i put it to my mouth then they would eat it too... and it was one of the most active dogs that i've had

  6. You either strive to feed as close to whole prey as possible - so you are often giving things such as whole rabbits and chickens - or you make your meal as close to that of a prey animal's body composition as possible (so you would prepare a meal made up of various meat types muscles and organs to imitate different types of meat a dog would be eating if eating a whole prey animal).

I've fed both whole prey items and individual meats and organs to make up a sort of "broken up prey item".

Another thing I really like about it is the dog has to work out its mouth and think through how to hold its food down when trying to pull apart a whole animal or something like a deer head so it also makes the eating experience more interactive for the dog as well. I like an animal that is thinking as much as possible.

  7. the whole comparing domestic dogs to wolves as a reason to feed raw is a bunch of bs...todays dogs are not wolves...

the real issue is the crappy dog foods out there...lol. that's the problem the majority of them are awful. you just need to find a quality one that works with your pup.

some dogs do well on the crap foods...some do good on the real expensive ones...

experiment with protein content...protein source ..grains..grain free...etc etc.

ive been using the blue wilderness lately ..chicken..i was using the totw high prairer or whatever its called but dogs stool started getting soft...i dont know if they changed it or what..

i did use timberwolve organics...but the place i went to stop carrying it...but that was a great food...

you can def condition a dog on those...very very very well...

i saw very good dogs on ol roy..lol which is crap...conditoned ready to go..

    imho of course...
