I honestly cant remember exactly but it contains something that can build up in their body and can cause toxicity, im sure someone who knows more about it will comment.

from what ive heard flax is better given in seed form that it isnt absorbed in oil form, and im not sure about olive oil.

Organic Flax seeds are a good source of Omega 3 but it has to be the actual seeds as 99.9 % of flaxseed oil is rancid by the time it gets to the store.

Also another thing to remember is the Omega 3 fatty acids in fish are different to flax seeds. Fish contains Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) while flax seeds contain something different Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA).

Forgot to add fish oil has to be pharmaceutical grade and in the US has to be bought online as even the "clean" Scandinavian brands are not that good. You should use more than one type and they should be rotated. Krill Oil (often described as fish oil on steroids) is 10x better than good quality fish oil but a lot of people are avoiding it because harvesting the Krill is damaging the environment.

they are not all the same and they all have different benefits. There is threads on here about them and you can even google the info.

Thats a pretty general comment. Where did you get that info from? Can you please provide the source? Are you talking about the US or some other country. I'm pretty sure people would be getting sick and there would be some kind of recall if any food product was rancid.

In any case, flax oil pills can also be given. I doubt they would be rancid.

It is harder for a dog to break the ALA down to usable form. Therefore fish oil is superior to flax oil.

Cod liver oil contains massive amounts of vitamin A & D. These are fat soluble vitamins that build up and can cause toxicity over time. However if a dog has rickets then it would be beneficial to use it. It can be given occasionally, but fish oil is best for routine feeding.
