How many dogs were their that was matched at a young age and made it to be champ or grand champ.I only know one gr.ch.lukane.won two before he was two.He won the first one at 17months.

 

K.A's Double Gr. Ch. Tornado. Won her first at 13 months I think.

 

I think Midnight Cowboy won a few before he was 2 years old.

 

STP Gr. Ch Buck made his status before he turned 4 years old. I believe the Gambler's Gr. Ch Virgil was a 1xw at 18 months. This is just to name a few, many great dogs got started pretty early.

 

Wonder how many you would have to go thru to find it?

 

too many! im no dogman but from what i know that would be the easiest way to ruin alot of good dogs before they even got the chance.

 

rapid roy went to hell and back early. if he was actually campaigned he could've had a lot more wins under his collar.

 

I agree but if the dog is ready. Then don't hold em back.

i think some vet can tell when a dog is ready. also realize the dogs mentioned are freaks in the box lol. Overall, i'd rather be safe then sorry but it can work out

The dog might be ready mentally, but body maturity is extremely important...
unless plans for the future don't matter with him...

 

you all are foregtting about gr ch machobuck the youngest titled dog in history of the sport.. if im not mistaken he won his first match at 14 months

 

broke that one dogs neck in two! talk about a hardmouth.

 

CH.CHAINEY won his first at 12 or 13mths and for those of you that don't know him 3 of his were unreported.

 

do you guys think breeding dogs that won earlier would produce dogs that matured or started faster? just something i never thought about....

 

Around 10 months old he was put on an 18month old dog.
Around 14 months old he was rolled again for 23 minutes.
His next three rolls were into bigger dogs then him (50lbs) nothing went under 40 minutes. In these rolls Roy had his foot broken, tendons in his Front legs torn for life and his legs would never be the same.
Then they decided to see if he was a cur. He was set down for 1:06 before he got picked up. Then the next morning, nine hours after doing 1:06 off chain they let Roy scratch into another dog. He made the scratch.

This was all before his first match. After this game test he was hooked for one.

 

Ch ghetto beat a champ at around 18 months. I don't think dogs such as these mentioned mature faster in so as much as they have superior skills. I like early starters more than most people, but I believe it has no effect on the quality of the dogs. some of the most influential dogs were late starters (Dibo and Fitzwaters Goldie to name a couple). I like what someone said earlier about how many do you have to ruin to find out.

 

i agree, and that makes sense. Just seemed like hot pups are a tendency in certain bloodlines just like late starters so thats what i was thinking. I dont think i would have had the balls to match a pup if i were into that type of thing pre 76'
