I would take a dog off of a current day proven producer over one from the past.

you can only go by the last 2 generations..... the rest is just shit unless your breeding back into the same blood. Even so there's plenty of game bred family dogs that still didn't cut it in the box. Best dog would be a hard tested SOB from working parents that you seen.

Unless you got a time machine........lol

Personally I have had both old and new. And as its been said time after time , a good dog is where you find them. That being said back in the day I had a devastating leg dog who had crushed 4 hogs no problem until the fifth one. He went uphill into the fifth who was a destroyer. I picked mine up at 45mins have showed game. While he lost game more people inquired bout breeding to mine. This is how it used to be when gameness was what people looked for ,less paper chasers, and folks had a good eye for a bulldog. I have seen some stuff out today that would turn cur if a game dog took what it dished and kept scratching. For me a one time game looser that had his oil checked is more welcomed in my breeding program than an untested hard mouth cur.

I dont think it makes a difference what day and age it is. In the present and in the past some people would have wanted to breed to your game loser and others would have wanted to breed to the dog that made you pick up. In my opinion i wouldnt mind breeding to eith dog since neither was a cur. It would depend on the gyp that i planned on breeding, if she lacked a little on gameness i would take her to yours but if i felt she needed more mouth and ability i would go with the other. And can you clarify your last statement. Is the hard mouth dog a cur or is he a hard mouth dog that just hasent been in deep water?

I thought the same thing. How can it me an untested hard mouth cur?

Seen a few of these untested hard mouth curs in my day. Some boys had this acclaimed pit destroyer back when who was sought after as a stud. I was young and a oldtimer told me just wait and see he is just a rough cur. Sure thing, soon as he went into one that dished out equally he jumped out the box ,yelped, wounded scratch. He still had a hard mouth but he was cur from the get. It just took the right one to expose him. Therefore he was what I call a untested hard mouth cur. Was he a cur before he got in deep water or was he just having a bad day? Which came first the chicken or the egg? All do know is he proved to be a rough cur like the old man said.

If my example did not clarify it cant help you. Its just a term and not even a new one at that. A cur is a cur is a cur. I have seen fight crazy curs, rough curs, and yes hard mouth curs that when tested showed their true colors plain and simple. People breed to them every day not knowing better. Proper schooling, culling , and high caliber competition will expose and deal with such a deceptive cur. But hey what do I know? If you happen to know someone that's been in this fraternity for over 40 years see if they can shed some more light on such a term.

Yea its cool peon , you know what they say about opinions. Its all good. Wheter its old school or new if its working for a person more power to them.

It's the terminology being used. If you know the dog is a cur then surely they were tested or you wouldnt know they were a cur, hard mouth or other..

Yea I can see how, if you have never heard of or seen a "rough acting cur" that term may seem confusing. All I know is that you have a fight crazy cur that can have mouth for days and even squeek out a win or two but eventually when his oil is truly checked his true cur colors will come shining thru. This I have seen call it what you want. A english major I am not. I stay out such wranglings or words. For instance I had a guy tell me that Deadgame was a oxymoron. His reasoning was that he claimed he had never seen a dead dog that is game. I told him he was playing on words and tried to explain it but you know some people are too smart for thier own good.

If a dog is untested how is it a cur? Its jus a untested dog

I understand what you are saying now. The confusion is coming the word untested being said when usually it is just understood. Whether its rank cur, rough cur, or hard mouth cur the terms are used without saying untested because its understood or implied that that type of dog will pqck it in when not winning easily, pressured a little bit or taken into deep water.
