All I have to say is that consumer affairs will let ANYONE post ANYTHING and you cannot be sure about anything on that site. I would warn anyone to believe anything they read from that site, just like wikipedia.

Dogs can and will develop stomach problems if improperly switched from a food with, for example, by-products and corn, to one without those ingredients. That is why on every single bag of Nutro they tell you how to properly switch your dogs. The same can be said if the formula changes.

However, most people just switch without a transition and don't care until their dog is vomiting or having diarrhea. At this point they blame the food.

I have used pet food from many different high end brands in the past, including Nutro. It was the first by-product and wheat free product I tried. 3 of my dogs were raised on it. But, when I started it I didn't use the transition and all the dogs had diarrhea for 4 days. After that they were fine until I switched off it for financial reasons to find a food that better suited ALL my dogs.

I think that IF Nutro is being investigated then something will be done. But, if they aren't then you are just helping other companies to slander them, which is more likely. Companies like Science Diet pay bloggers to say how great their food is instead of changing their horrible ingredients to be better for the dogs.

Thanks BSL! I was sent this at work by a supposedly reliable source. I will make sure they know to retract their message as they sent it on a company wide email :( .

Maybe the mods can delete this thread.

Nutro ConsumerAffairs.com Statement and QA (4-21-2009)

On April 20, ConsumerAffairs.com posted a story claiming that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has an ongoing investigation into NUTRO® pet food. This is not true. We have confirmed with the FDA’s division responsible for regulating pet food, the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), that there is no current or ongoing investigation of Nutro Products, Inc.
We want to assure our consumers, associates, retailers, and all those who feed NUTRO® products to their pets that our products are safe and conform to the standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S Department of Agriculture and the Association of American Feed Control Officials. All NUTRO® products undergo rigorous quality assurance testing beginning with raw ingredients and ending with testing finished products. This includes testing to confirm that no melamine, mold toxins, or pathogenic bacteria are detected in any NUTRO® pet foods.
For the past year, ConsumerAffairs.com, an "independent Web-based consumer news and resource center," not affiliated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or Consumer Reports, has been selectively posting consumer complaints and authoring its own statements that draw false links between isolated instances of illness and death among pets, and the consumption of NUTRO® pet food products.
In February of 2009, a ConsumerAffairs.com posting alleged that a class action lawsuit against Nutro Products in relation to pet health issues was being researched by a law firm. We have not received notification of a class action lawsuit against Nutro Products. In June of 2008, ConsumerAffairs.com falsely claimed that NUTRO® pet foods may have been the cause of pet health issues in a number of specific cases. In an August 2008 update to that posting, ConsumerAffairs.com reported that ASCPA veterinary toxicologist, Dr. Steven Hansen, concluded after an in depth review that the complaints appear to be random, non-pet food related health issues.
While consumer concerns about NUTRO® product quality are rare, we take every complaint seriously. When we learn of an issue, we work with consumers to obtain information and request that samples of any product in question be submitted for testing at an independent facility. An in-depth review is performed to determine if an issue does exist. Consumers with questions or concerns about NUTRO® products are encouraged to contact our Consumer Services Department at 1-800-833-5330.
Nutro Products, Inc. remains committed to the quality, safety and performance of all our pet food brands. As we have for over 80 years, we strive to deliver the finest natural products to our customers and their pets.

I will leave this up for now so anyone who read the false story can read the response and contact the company if they need be. I called the 1 800 and was told that a suit may be filed against this website for libel claims by Nutro Products.

Bumping so others can see this in light of recent posts.

Also, don't believe everything you read on the consumer affairs. . .or anything. Contact the FDA yourself and you will see that this is a scam.

    Nothing more.

Read it on the FDA's website yourself. . .

I for one think that facts are important when accusing a company of something.

ESPECIALLY, when people assume that claims of an unsubstantiated website are worth something.

Well, here are some facts for anyone who does or may in the future purchase Nutro.

What thats some stupid shit why dont they go after that consumer site that posted the original article first???? If it is all a lie the products should speak for themselves and the truth would come out but I hear alot of members on here say that Nutro dog food sucks...so now what we cant have a opiinion or freedom of speech?.....Hammatoed gave a testimonial of his actual experience of what happen to his dog when he used nutro dog food how is that false? Unless you saying he is lying about his own experience. I have used nutro in the past for about a month and I didnt like it dog coat was dull and there stools where always soft but this was awhile back when they first came out maybe there formula has changed for the better now who knows but I aint trying it again....remember the saying first impressions are the most valuable.....As soon as I switched dog food there coat began to look much better and there stools where alot firmer. You see all these testimonials wethere they be real or fake is still just someone elses OPINION or EXPERIENCES.

A 35 lb bag of Nutro Natural Choice Lamb Meal and Rice is now $50. $50 freaking dollars!

Honestly, that's some of the most overpriced crap I've ever encountered.

As for the food, I fed it waaaaaay back in the day only to see how bad my dogs really did look, especially when compared to a better food.

For $50, one can get Merrick and TOTW and many other quality foods.
