I am in the process of getting a house at the end of the month, that being said i now have enough room to get an apbt. My question is what would you all suggest as far as my yard set up? I don't really know what i want to do. I was thinking about pouring a concrete slab and getting a magnum kennel or one of those ukc kennels with a sun screen on top of it, or just setting up a tie out in the yard. your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Will this be a suburban home with neighbors in close proximity? Will there be a privacy fence around the yard?

Nothing is better then a 10 foot chain setup but for my high priced dogs i have them in a kennel with a over head cable with a chain on it attatched to the collar so if they actually do get out they cant go now where.

I'd go with the tie out. Since you already have a privacy fence just get a good chain and axle set up and go at it. Just make sure the dog has adequate shade and shelter that he can't get tangled in. The way I see it, a dog on a 12 ft chain has a 24 ft circle to run in all day. Unless you plan on getting a 24 ft kennel that amount of room and exercise can't be equaled. Also I just feel safer with my dog tied than just in a kennel. Remember these dog's are escape artist. Also just a bit of warning, if the dog does get loose, a 6ft fence won't be much of a containment. Good luck. I hope the dog turns out to be all you want it to be.

If you have just one dog, use a tie out, just make sure your dog has shade, shelter and water at all times, the only reason I would keep my pitbull in a kennel is , if I had a guard dog breed , patrolling my house .

Hey Arnold ................ Im talking about, having a guard dog breed and a game bred pitbull not tearing each other apart. Ps, And yes, I would rotate them, guard dog would be loose at night and pitbull in his kennel and vice versa.

as for the axle and chain rig, works very well, in a couple of situations on my yard i have dogs on overhead cable runs with the same chain rigging as the axle setup. the reason is, i use the overhead run in around my game fowl pens to discourage predators as well a thief! anyway anybody got any hardware ideas to keep pulleys from slamming into the cable clamps? also in my experience the coated cable seems to roll up and slide out of the coating.

dogs are like zombies in runs much prefur chains but since changing over for the first time had 2 acdentials already 1 was using those bullsnaps and the other not using some lock tight on one of those threaded quick/replacement links im sure my dogs paws tune into hands and fingers when i leave the house lol

I was talking to a friend today on this subject. Do you believe a chain set up would make a dog more territorial? I personally use kennels alot and chains somewhat when the weather is good

I always found that a dog raised in a kennel is a bit more neurotic. they pace back and fourth over and over again like a zoo animal does. With a chain set up they don't have the fencing in front of them so they don't feel confined and a 10' chain gives you about 3x's the living area as a 10x10 kennels will. Either will work though so it's really more, what are you willing to look at everyday. Chain set ups don't look as nice to the public as kennels do but the dog really does have more space and the appearance of freedom on a good chain set up.

They did a study on kennels vs chain spots and the dogs on the chain spots were mentally much healthier than the dogs in a kennel.

The great misconception is that some people tend to believe that the method of containment will determine the outcome of a dogs personality/characteristics which is false statement. Its the INDIVIDUAL dog himself that will determine his personality traits/characteristics regardless of ones containment method.

Certain powers that be would like to convince the general population that certain methods of containment like TETHERING is cruel (due to all there bullshit excuses lol) hence why certain states are making it ILLEGAL to Tether a dog to further there true hidden agenda.

If you are going to choose a kennel over the most securest containment method which is a a proper chain set up then make sure you do it right and get a HEAVY DUTY Kennel (6 gauge/1 1/4 mesh or smaller) and not one of those cheap ass weak/flimsy mass marketed kennels you see at most hardware stores.

I have experienced that with proper spaciousness and proper, secure gear, that it matters not either way. I prefer chains, but MUST use kennels for certain scenarios and times. I see no "VS." to it if both are top notch, safe set ups. Good post, Saiy.
