Where you from? Where I live it's anywhere from $185-$500 at some spots. On top of that there's no garuantee, re-checks and extra costs for suddation or anti-biotics if needed. First thing is to get them checked for good cartiladge. I got one of my dogs ears cropped because they were floppy. Come to find out that the cartiladge was weak and might not stand right anyway. Like bully Boi said check their work. I was recommended by someone so I had a chance to see his work up front. If you get them done make sure to keep a good eye on them to make sure you get your moneys worth. I've had 2 croppings not go the way I wanted.

 

It all depends on where you are at and how money hungry the vet is.One of the vets I used to work for only did certain types of cuts and she charged an arm and 2 legs,where as the vet that does all my ears only charges 87.50 and its excellent work

On my house dog I paid $85 which included everything. They did an outstanding job and my hubbie even went in while they were cutting and made sure it was what we wanted. Unfortunately that vet is no longer in our area, but its very rare that we want a crop on ears anymore.

 

I payed $240 in KS for my dog to get done. He was about 10 mo. when we got it done so he ended up pulling a few stitches and had to get them re-sewed. The vet was good and re did it all up for free (she charged enough in the first place it's the least she could do)
Ive heard it is cheaper where we are now but im not going to get another one done. IMO its not worth the hassle or the $$

 

I got my dog's ears done for $65, that included everything sedation,antibiotics, and people come from all around to get them done from this vet. Anyone from houston let me know and I'll give you the vet's name.

 

We were told by the vet to bring in a picture that way he could see how we wanted it done. So if you have a picture of what you want your dogs ears to look like it would be good to take in. Don't just go into any vet office and have it done. Ask around first because some places might have bad, mixed, or good references to them. Good-luck with the ears and hope you find a good vet!

 

I agree with you Irish that it's not worth the hassle. I had Ben's done and it was a HORRIBLE experience! I'm not saying that it goes "bad" all the time - but I don't think I want to ever go through that again.

 

Here it's everywhere from $100 for stitch job to $300 for laser. With the laser you don't have stitches to mess with.

 

Laser? I never heard of that. How does it work with after care and where you from.

 

The laser simply cuts the ear where the doctor lines it and it automatically cauterizes the the open ends all at the same time.Not as much bleeding (if any) and easier aftercare.

I paid 15 dollars and that was for the sedative. my buddy has done his own ears now for over 10 years. they were perfect.

 

Just be careful. In most states (not all I think) it is illegal for anyone other than a licensed practicing DVM to crop ears. In a few of those states it falls under felony charges. I personally prefer to have people go to a local vet. This is a procedure which is done under general anesthesia not just using a local sedative. It is a somewhat lengthy procedure & can result in the death of your dog whether during the procedure or afterwards from infrection if not done correctly. I agree w/all the previous advice about asking at different clinics. And bring a pic or two so the vet can tell you his opinion/judgement. It is also not impolite to ask for pics, so ask away.

 

Do all vets do laser croppings and is this a new procedure.

 

One thing that my vet told me is that they dont teach ear cropping in vet school, its something the vet learns from another vet or on their own.

Vet I use charges $250 plus extra for pain medicine Theres 2 vets, one does with laser, the other prefers to still use the old knife..and he does a fine job.. we had no problems what so ever. Only had 2 pups done.. I prefer them natural
