Re: electric mill-best way to use?
i used to put my dog on a regular old tread mill i had out in the garage.he loved that damn thing.i used to leave the side door open so he could go in n out of the garage, alot of times i'd pass by n see him sitting on it,as soon as id walk in the garage he'd get up all excited, tail wagging ready to go.he'd run on that thing for hours if i'd let him.the longest i let him run on it was 45min.i'd start him off slow and little by little increase the speed or the incline and sometime both.

Re: electric mill-best way to use?
I put mine on a slight incline, and at first my dog will sprint and I let him. He'll get about 7.2 for a bit, but as soon as the dog starts to trail close to the end of the mill, I slow it down so that he's running in the middle of the mill. I always keep my dog in the middle, if he runs high up on the mill, I'll speed up, but I never take my eyes off the dog. That's how I do it, and so far so good, no injuries.

Slow to medium speeds and work at an incline. Also, if the mill has an emergency cord I would recommend attaching it to your dog so if he starts to slow down and fall back it shuts off. Others come with an emergency stop button, haven't tried, but I'm sure you could rig that up for the same purpose.

Good post, That is how it should be done. I've seen people really mess a dog up, so be careful and PLEASE never leave your dog alone. Also, since this is your first mill you will be excited, so don't let the dog go for too long his first time on it and before you try to get him to run it let him get comfortable with it first. Some take to it like fish to water though.

Re: electric mill-best way to use?
Two of mine are terrified of the mill, they hate the sound of the motor when the mill starts. When they hear it, they run away as fast as they can. Take your time getting the dog used to it, let him just sit on it for a few days, no work, just sitting. Then have in the room when you first cut in on and let get used to the sound for a while, I did this for about a week so the dog isn't to surprised.

I wouldn't recommend using an e-mill for conditioning. Save your money and look for a used slatmill. They are always popping up at a good price.

Re: electric mill-best way to use?
A slat is better than a emill, but if you have the opportunity to get all three mills: slat, carpet and emill, get them. The more you can switch up the dogs workout, the more fun he'll have working for you. JMO

If the dogs won't work, there's no reason he could always exercise on it himself

Check craigslist. People are always giving away treadmills for free or less than $80. Not much of a financial gamble and if your dogs don't take to it then you can always give it away or just use it yourself.

Re: electric mill-best way to use?
Its a website. craigslist.org and its basically a large classifieds page where people sell literally everything. Its only in the US I think but you go to it, find your nearest city and browse. I check everyday, theres something for everyone.
