<TABLE height="100%" cellSpacing=2 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3><HR class=hr width="100%" SIZE=1><!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi everyone. How's every one doing?
I need some help.

My female was on heat about a month ago. About two weeks after her heat I noticed that her nipples (especially the back ones) started to get big. I just dismissed it as her body just reacting to being on heat/ or a false pregnancey (she did not mate).

So a couple of weeks passed and I notice her back nipples are getting bigger and starting to hang more. I was still thinking a false pregnancey.
But this morning I decided to squeeze her nipples to see what would come out. Nothing came out of the front ones but the results were different for the two at the back. The left back nipple had some clear watery fluid come out and the rite back nipple had this same fluid along with some blood.
So, what is going on with my female?

I don't want to rush her to the vet yet because if I can treat this my self, I will. But after I do my researching along with the input I get from you guys/gals; if I'm not confident in the prognosis and how to treat it then I'll take her to the vet.
But folks, please help me out with this one.
Thank you.

Never Heard Of Symptoms Before. Not The Blood Out Of The Nipple One. The Clear Fluid Usually Means A Possible False Pregnancy. But The Blood Thing Is Throwing Me Off Bro. Call Vet My Opinion!

I've never heard of the blood thing, but I had a dog go through a false pregnancy and she had all of the other symptoms.

My female gets the same thing after every heat. It might be the pre stages of Mastitus or a staph infection.

You can help to clear it up by using a hot compress to drain the fluid out (yup, you have to milk her!).

Depending on how severe it is, you might also want to put her on antibiotics.

Ravens are doing the same thing. She is 9mon. old and she went out of heat at almost 8 mon. but her "ninnies" (thats what i call'em) ...lol, are also hanging in the back and her front ones look like they are just developing milk, but her nipples are not swolen. It looks like she is about to nures puppies, but she is NOT pregnant and no milk or blood is coming out. I took her to the vet and she said it normal in most females, it can last between 4-12 weeks, but she also said she can't spay her until they go down:confused: .
But if thier is blood coming out....that doesn't sound good. Are the nipples themselves swolen? Or does it look like she is just developing milk.

The blood thing definetly needs to be checked out. The rest I would rule out. It's normal.

Her nipples are not swollen at all. Tiara, what antibiotics may be needed; which is best in this case:ampicillion, amoxicillion, or cephalaxing?

We are using amoxicillian (I can check the dosage and let you know).

My damn female is doing this too. She's never had a falso pregnancy, but I know it's possible. I haven't checked for discharge from her nipples, but the blood doesn't sound too good from your dogs'.

It sounds like mastitis & you need to get the dog to the vet now.

Please keep us updated on what this is and what the vet says. I'm interested as we've not had this problem before.

Our female is on amoxicillain, 400 mg, twice a day.

I'm working with a holistic (for the most part) vet now who also has alot of experience with dairy cows so he's very familiar with mastitus. He says sometimes it can be taken care of with a prolonged usage of antibiotics (6-8 weeks). He told me that in a lot of cases, other vets only have them on long enough to clear up the symptoms and then the infection will reoccur (usually near the heat cycle).

If this procedure doesn't work for us, than we will be getting her fixed as that should end it for good. She's only 30 points away from grand champion, but of course, her health is the priority.

Warning signs you should look out for are teets that are hardened, red or swollen, hot or inflamed and sensitive to the touch (like they are hurting her). If she has any of these, I would get her to the vet ASAP.
