In my opnion, people who abandon their dogs in the middle of the country need to be shot! How hard is it to take your dog to the humane society and tell them you don't want or are unable to keep your dog. Please, don't abandon it and then forget about it. An abandoned dog goes through so much suffering and pain before it is either picked up or dies.

The reason i'm posting this is because of what my mother did the other day. She's from a small town surrounded by miles and miles of corn fields. She was driving along the the road when she noticed something in the middle of the field. It was a puppy, she guesed it to be a kind of lab mix. At first she figured it to be a local farmer's pup after slowing down to get a look at it. But as she slowed down the pup began running toward her. She decided to move on so the pup didn't stray too far from its home. The only problem was the pup kept following her ... and followed her for about a mile. She finally decided to stop and see what was wrong with the pup. She noticed as it ran it ran with a limp in one of its legs. When the pup got to her door she opened it and it jumped right in. She guessed the pup to be about 8 or 9 months old and it was all skin and bones. Thru the lab's thick long fur you could SEE EVERY BONE IN IT'S BODY INCLUDING THE BACK BONES, RIBS, AND HIP BONES. She brought it home and kept it at a friend's house that had a spare kennel so she could take care of the dogs we had at home already. She then fed it and gave it something to drink and brought it to town where my Aunt and Uncle live. They had just recently lost their Jack Russell from a dog fight earlier this summer. Their neighbor had a Pit Bull and let it loose and it killled their Jack Russell Terrier right in front of their 3 kids. I'm a pit bull lover, but it angers me when people let their dogs loose and things like that happen. Anyway, my Aunt and Uncle agreed to keep the starving puppy.

After the first day of being in a loving (yet sometimes crazy) house, the pup went to the bathroom for the first time. And it's feces was nothing but field corn. To all those farmers out there, you may know what point i'm trying to make... but to those city folk i'll explain: it takes a VERY HUNGRY dog to eat field corn. Field corn especially this time of year is hard as a rock and completely undigestible!! That poor pup must have been living weeks off of field corn.

It's stories like this about starving pups that people just abandon that really make me mad. How hard is it to do the right thing?

This puppy is the sweetest thing... if not the most scared puppy i've ever seen. It gets startled at the slightest thing. I am helping my aunt and uncle and their kids work with the puppy to build up its confidence level but it's going to take some time. My mother, who knows something about the sighns of an aggressive dog did a very smart thing (if ya ask me) while feeding the pup for the first time... she began petting him while he ate, and then she moved his food bowl while he ate, then she put her hand IN his food bowl while he ate and he showed absolutely no aggression toward her. I believe this pup is going to grow up to be a completely well adjusted dog, it's just sad about all the suffering he had to endure.

people don't want the guilt, they would rather think that the dog ended up just like you described or not know what happened rather than take it to the humane society and think it was destroyed. Twisted thought process, but, it works for them.

It's sad that people have dogs and don't think about the long term. If you can't keep a dog there are other options. Sometimes a job, a move across country prevents a family from keeping a pet (in my opinion that's bs because there are other jobs out there that I will be able to keep my two boys). But you are still responsible for that pet. you need to find a good home for them or take them to a no kill facility that will allow people that want a pet to find one. When people decide to get a pet, they need to realize that it is just like a child. It depends on you to take care of it and protect it. If you are not ready to be a parent don't get a pet.

Yea, I agree with what everyone said here.

That is so sad. I am happy this puppy gets another chance at life.

My current APBT foster girl (whom I adore and so want to keep!) was left at the local dog park. What is wrong with people? I will never know, but she is so sweet.
