Wilkes-Barre, PA -- Her dog is dead.
She got a $500 bill for euthanasia and cremation services from her vet.
And now, Jean Naturile could face hundreds of dollars in fines.
The Courtdale woman whose 140-pound pit bull was shot by a state constable last Friday will likely be charged for not having a valid 2005 license for the dog, the dog warden who serves Luzerne County said Thursday.
Failing to purchase the $8 tag - available at the Luzerne County Treasurer's Office and dozens of locations throughout the county - could cost Naturile up to $300 in fines, State Dog Warden James Spencer said.
Spencer said she also may be cited for failing to provide proof the dog had up-to-date rabies shots.
Another possible citation for failing to properly confine the dog could be filed pending the outcome of his investigation, he said.
Both citations carry a potential $300 fine, he said.
Naturile's dog, Diamond, was shot three times by state Constable Sgt. Thomas Roccograndi and was later put down by a vet.
Roccograndi claims he shot at the dog five times in self defense after being attacked and bitten while serving a court summons to Naturile's 207 Cooper St. home.
Naturile feels Roccograndi used unnecessary force and acted recklessly in the quiet, residential neighborhood.
"As far as him (Diamond) not being tagged, I'm wrong," Naturile said Thursday upon learning she may be cited. "But that doesn't justify what he (Roccograndi) did."
