I just bought this dog yesterday, I am not real sure what she would be. Any ideas on what I should breed her to later on to produce good game pups? I want to try her on some hogs when she gets a little older, the people I bought her from used their dogs for this, her mom was WB1 (wild boar 1). Thanks.

Not to be mean but if you dont know, why did you buy her??

I see Mims.. Masn's hog on the bottom half.

I wouldnt worry about breeding.. thats aways down the road anyhow.. She has to be worthy of breeding in the first place.. which at her age, no one can tell
So concentrate on raising her up right, keeping her healthy and fit and learning all you can about the breed. This site is a good place to start..

She is a cute little girl though! Good luck with her

Thanks. I don't know much about bloodlines, I just liked the way the parents looked and acted, and that the owners were into hog hunting and their dogs did well at that. I did know enough to stay away from 80lb hulks claiming to be pitbulls, give me credit for that at least. Time will tell if she is a good dog.

Pretty scatterbred but as long as the parents worked well then thats all that matters. Im in agreement with Rocksteady....breeding is a long way down the road IF your dog even proves worthy. If it was me, I'd take him back to his mother or a close relative to try and tighten up the blood a little if he works for ya. Good luck and Welcome to the site......oh yeah, thanks for doing some research and not buying a big mutt! :D

Edit--Father looks great!

You got this all backwards man. You research and educate yourself before you buy a dog. You kind of jumped head first into something you obviously don't know a whole lot about. Worry about raising that pup and educating yourself before you get so set on breeding dogs. I'd hate for you to jump head first into that without researching and educating yourself. We have enough ignorant people breeding dogs as it is.

It would be hard to jump into breeding my dog, since its only a couple of months old. I know I don't know a lot about these bloodlines, but I know a lot about raising dogs. And have you ever heard the saying better late than never? At least I am trying to figure out what i've got, and if she works out, what I can do to continue improving. I have a year old pitbull now, but he isn't working out like I wanted him to, so he is mainly just a pet. I tried him on a very large pig, he went after it but she got on him and hurt him a little and he was afraid of her after that. Unless he really changes when he gets a little older, I won't breed him. I may be bloodline ignorant, but im not as ignorant as you might think.

He's ONLY A PUP!!!! APBTs usually dont mature until around 2 yo .. You are pushing that poor pup and not letting him grow physically and mentally . That (sorry to say) just proves everyone's advise ..You really dont know as much as you think. You just need to let your pups be pups and wait. Just like with kids /teenagers ..some mature faster than others, same as with dogs. Asking a 1yo pup to take on a large hog when the pup has NO IDEA what he's doing is like asking your 12 yo to go out and work a full time job as a firefighter ...

you basically screwed that pup up..he wasnt ready for a "large hog" and by letting him get hurt you not only let him down, you took away any confidence he might have had and possibly ruined his chances of developing to his full potential.

If you are seriously wanting to do this, I suggust you start to get to know hog hunters who know what they are doing and learn from them. Dont try to rush this stuff.

Nothing is wrong with learning what crosses work what dont.. but I think you need to learn first about training, nutrition, growth and how to raise a happy healthy dog and condition him or her into the best dog possible.. by what you just posted, you proved you arent knowledgable in the training/ conditioning part...

Good luck. ... Start doing some searched on the fourm about hog training..
