Keswick,Ontario, Canada -- Four people face assault, drug and weapons related charges in connection with a standoff Friday afternoon that shut down Baseline Road for about three hours.

The incident started when area residents searching a wooded area for a lost dog came across a number of marijuana plants and were confronted by two suspects, one of whom punched a searcher in the face.

They fled and were chased by the suspects, then contacted police by cellphone reporting shots had been fired.

Police arrived at the house and arrested one male in his vehicle while another fled into the house.

York police detectives, uniform officers, canine and emergency response units sealed off the area and were joined by the Ontario Provincial Police helicopter.

A woman in the house surrendered to police and the remaining two men gave up without incident after negotiations.

Police found more than 100 plants in the house and outside as well as about 35 pitbull puppies. They were turned over to the OSPCA.

Two Georgina men, aged 24 and 35, a Georgina woman, 30, and a Windsor man, 28, were arrested.

They got the plants, too?? No wonder Ontario has some messed up laws ;) Hmm, I wonder if thy use them as an incentive to adopt dogs out of the shelter or sell themselves to fund the shelter lol (thats a joke folks..)

There's actually been several crops found in ontario over the past week..one estimated to be worth 1,000,000 .........

Why does Pit Bulls attract such bone heads. I wonder if society as a whole told every body for the next ten years the border collie was the "new" pit bull if border collie sales would spike. I guess the weed doesn't give their ego a big enough boost so they gotta have the pit bull as an ego supplement.

I am here in Ontario and I do know who they are! Actually they are a part of this forum.......!

Please don't believe the hype and media people! We all know what they can say and write to increase interest and blow situations out of proportion! (eg. Floyd B bust!)

None of you were there and don't know first-hand what the situation was at the time of the incident!

Our breed has been given a bad name by press like this!

"DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!!"

Thanks STP...what was put in the paper is Bull****.The plant count and the puppy count are way off base, greatly over exagerated.A house guest, and FORMER friend was the one responsible for my hubby and I loosing all of our dogs. The gun charges are all his doing...IDIOT.Was at the OSPCA yesterday and was interviewed, they tried to say we were involved in fighting dogs, but all but 3 of my dogs are under 2 years old, most are under 1 year..Now they are trying to prove that we purchased the dogs after the ban as there is no evidence of dog fighting to be found. Will keep you updated, and any negative comments will be looked at and judged by those who actually know what happened.
My dogs are my life....what this idiot did has effectively lost me my home, and my dogs.I only hope that the courts see fit to do justice in this case.
Oh...and the marijuana charges were for personal plants,I'm an epileptic and its the only way to stop my seizures.
Thanks for the positive posting,It made my day to see support.

P.S. My mother also died on my 40th birthday on Sept 14th.It has not been a good month.

Sorry to see that the wheels of tyranny have crushed yet another of us. Good luck on your fight and getting your dogs and life back. Just goes to illustrate how the authorities and media will blow anything and everything out of proportion to sell their story.

Thanks Crash97......:)

It's a painful situation and your kind words and thoughtful comments have helped brighten my day.

To think that I opened my home to someone in need and was repaid by stupidity that caused such a loss has disheartened me.

All I can think of is the stress that my dogs are going thru....:(

I cry multiple times daily, cursing the man that caused our loss.I spent a week in jail because of him, as did my husband.

I'm 40 years old and have never been in trouble before, now I have 5 weapons charges,2 cultivation charges and might get 2 dog fighting charges as well.

I've lost all faith in the system.People are to quick to jump on the bandwagon and persecute people who don't deserve it.

Now, if they drop all the charges and give me my dogs back,my faith will be restored.

Wish me luck....

New update.....

After providing sufficient evidence to the OSPCA that we owned our dogs before the ban, they have come up with a new reason to keep our dogs....they are "a menace to society" as told to us by Mike Draper, lead investigator for the york region OSPCA.

Ironically, one of the investigators owns a pit bull, why is Mindy's not a menace, but mine are.

I worked for the OSPCA as their Canine Rehabilitation Supervisor for a year.I'm beginning to think this is personal.I had friendships with some of these investigators and they never saw fit to complain before.

Every time we prove them wrong.they come up with a new reason for not returning our dogs.Where is the justice in this? How many times do I have to provide them with what they want to have them turn around and say NO again? Our lawyer has been consulted and he is looking into the situation for us.

Will keep you updated.

Talked to a lawyer,230 dollars an hour....ouch. Have an appt. on Tues. Hopefully we get encouraging news. Also figured out how much the OSPCA seized in dogs and equipment....replacement value was around 30,000 dollars Canadian, not including food, care, shots or wormings. This is for 13 dogs plus a litter of twelve, plus collars, swivels, dog papers etc.Worth 230 an hour to pursue all day long. We will not give up on our dogs, they are our life, our children. The OSPCA has a fight on their hands, can't wait to watch them stand the line.

To all our Canadian friends....Happy Thanksgiving:)
Peace
