I think it's totally irresponsible to "raffle" a dog off without knowing the type of person who's going to win. I would never let one of my dogs go to someone without them being screened. As everyone knows, a BIG problem that is contributing to the outbreak of BSL is the idiotic irresponsible owners.

Wow, well hear's a thought for ya... The raffle is being held at a bulldog show. The chances of it getting into a good owners hands or at least the hands of someone enthusiastic about the breed are much greater in this venue then selling the dogs over the internet, on the side of the road, or in a newspaper. Would'nt you agree? I agree that irresponsible owners are a huge factor in the problems with BSL. But until the elected officials start targeting the owners nothing will change.
Dianobol, I believe you can get the odometer at any Wal-Mart. I think they cost about 8 bucks. I'm going to try & make it up to the show. Is it still 2 day? I read on another board it was changed to just Sat.

So pretty good chance that the pups gonna go to one. And I'd much rather see that than it go to someone wanting it as a pet, as most pet owners have no clue on raising or keeping a bulldog.

Just because someone is at a show doesn't make them a responsible owner or capable of caring for another dog. Some may just buy a raffle ticket and then sell the dog to someone else. Is there any type of contract that the people will sign?
At least if you are selling on the side of the road, online or placing an add, you still have the say of who/where the dog will go.

Scanning a person does not mean the dog is going to a good home. I know people that treat their dogs better than they treat other people.

Contracts on these dogs are worthless! They are only used by puppy peddlers to make themselves look legit. Have you ever been to a bulldog show?

I've been to several shows, traveled over 20,300 miles last year to show our dogs. We've met alot of great people in our travels, I just wouldn't put one of our dogs in a raffle and hope on the "luck of the draw" that they go to a good owner.
Why not sell the dog and donate the money to the club?

Bulldogger shows aren't like the usual conformation shows, they don't attract the general public. These shows attract the true working dog and it's owner. The people present at these shows are already deep in the dogs and know more about raising and keeping a gamebred bulldog than most others will ever know. So no worries...IMO

Dogs must be crated at all times to prevent any accidents from ocurring. This is the best and safest way to insure that your and others dogs remain safe. Most wouldnt want the media coming to a pit bull show for an accident,so they could make a mountain out of a mole hill. You have to have a crate. All shows require this.Conformation is based on how the dog looks to the set standards.Conformation classes means groups of dogs are show within different age groups.
