My Lilly does this, I've had a few trainers say different things......they told me it could mean affection, could mean a sign of dominance or it could mean she is looking for reassurance.
My pup does the same thing. Whenever you go to pet him and you're sitting down, he'll put his front paws on your lap. I always thought they were trying to show dominance.

i have heard that too but this is different, she only puts one paw on me, and its like she just has to be touching me back, its cute but really annoying, any advice on how to get her to stop?
No idea on how to get it to stop. Maybe say "no" and move her or yourself a little bit?

Oh yea, get that a lot. She follows me everywhere, tripping me occasionally. But she has to be sleeping with a paw on me. I think maybe its security reasons or something.
It means that you are hers.

My pup does the one paw thing. It was cute when he was little but now he is bigger I try to remove his paw and say NO. It has worked so far. He only does it every once and awhile. He is a big baby and I think it is a security thing for him.

my natas does it when i'm driving, he will lean on me or put a paw on my passenger's shoulder. He also has to be touching me when he is sleeping, it must be a security thing

Aww don't make her take her paw of you! She's just saying "I love you, so I'm petting you like you pet me" :)

i know but it is so annoying, i don't mind it as much, but when we have company and they pet her, they don't understand why my dog insists on putting her paw on them

In my experience, this is showing affection. Look at a litter of pups. They will cuddle together or have a part of their bodies touching another dog. The same goes with older dogs. One will lay on another. Sometimes, dogs will show affection when you start caressing them by licking you at the same time. My current dog will place his head on my lap or foot, lick me when I pet him (or for no apparent reason), follow me everywhere (except the bathroom!) to the point of tripping.
I realize sometimes it is annoying but you have to take the bad with the good. He/She loves you and wants you to know it.
If you do not want this behavior, give it a firm NO while removing the paw from your lap. Eventually he will know not to show affection this way.

don't get me wrong i love the affection, and she is a licker, which drives my husband crazy he gets so mad at her when she licks, i don't mind it cause she is my dog, but it bothers guests, and i understand that cause i don't like when other peoples dogs lick me, but i don't think the licking will ever stop, she is just a lovey dovey dog.

Beat her to a bloody pulp or at least until she stops doing it. JK I would never do that and nor should you. I would have to agree with what everyone else is saying and just continue to tell her no and take her paw off of you. I have delt with that stuff for all of my dogs. Just be consistant at stopping it and she won't do it as much. Good luck

My dog does this and My neighbor (he is a dog trainer for the local PD) said that it is a security thing for the dog. Kinda like reassurance. I forget exactly what he said but it was something along those lines

Mt girl Tenny does it dont mind it much I always figured it was her way of showing affection. If anything I encourage it when it's just me & her but remeber other people may not see this as trying to show affection so be carefull about letting your dog jump up on people,Running tworads them, ect.
My dog MIKA does the same thing when I am sitting out back with her. She never leaves my side until I get up then she goes where I do in the yard. I think it is her way of showing me her love for me
