I want to express the importance on giving your dog the proper diet and exercising it needs. This is for any new members who may be over feeding your pit bull because of other people telling you they look better big. I owe my quick results to the knowledge i've gained from this site and it's members. I was over feeding my dogs and did'nt realize it until I read many threads here that was about dieting and health for this breed. I wish to share my results with the members here as proof that members here know what they are talking about. This is my female 6 weeks ago at 12 1/2 months of age and 80lbs! This is her now 6 weeks later at 14 months and 63lbs!!! In 6 weeks she lost 17lbs all just because I took members advice and changed her diet and added some spring pole work to her weekly activities. Now I just started running her on a treadmill so in a few weeks she should look alot better than this. thanks to everyone's advice and knowledge! New members don't

get caught up in all the hype on big pits being cool, a dog that can actually preform and is healthy is much more valuable than one that gets tired just to get up out of bed in the morning. :)

The first 2 are of her 6 weeks ago and fat, the other 3 are from a few days ago

Great looking dog. How much are you feeding her and what is a spring pole and how do I get one. Also are you talking about a reguler people treadmill?

you can make a springpole out of a tree rope and a garage door spring, then just ad a ball or some burlap to the end for it to pull from.

Great job bluepitt!!!

I agree, the majority of the members here are very knowlegable with this breed. I also have been reading a lot of th posts that are up and still going, my white red nose was about almost 8-10 to heavy and needed more muscle. My brother gave me one of his doggie tread mills and I have been working her on it also with a better measured amount of food she is looking alot better now I only have 2 pics for before and after but i'm sure you can see the differance. In my gallery the first two are Candi's body shots. The first one is before, she not bad looking but needs a little work. The second one with the grass is her now with only 2 1/2 weeks of the tread mill and better diet. Not a real BIG differance but there is a differance. I'll give her another month or two and she will be looking great.

Even though I haven't asked alot of q's I've read posts that were already up. So I to will say THANK YOU for all the help that I 've gotten from everyones experience here. They really know what thier talking about.

Great looking dog. How much are you feeding her and what is a spring pole and how do I get one. Also are you talking about a reguler people treadmill? Thanks Mika! I'm feeding her 3 cups a day right now, before I was feeding her too much. Yeah the treadmill I have is a people treadmill, but i'm using it because a friend of mine gave it too me. Keep in mind that the slatmills are the best choice but if you do happen to come across a people treadmill you should modify it a bit. I built 2 flat boards on each side of it to keep the dogs from coming off the sides. Also when they are running you must supervise them just in case they get tired or slip that way you can stop it. Mine stops instantly if I hit the stop buttom, just in case something happens.

you can make a springpole out of a tree rope and a garage door spring, then just ad a ball or some burlap to the end for it to pull from.I made a spring pole for $10 and it will last for a long time. I bought a lawn mower tire for $7, not too big and not too small, just big enough for the dog to be able to grip it good. Then I bought a bungee cord for $2. I ran the bungee cord around the tire and tied it to an extension cord. I tie the extension cord around a tree branch and leave the bungee cord holding the tire hanging about 6 feet. When the dog grabs the tire the bungee cord will stretch and the dog will keep pulling it, then the bungee cord will pull them back. You can put it up on the high side to keep the dog on 2 legs, this will work its jaws real well. Let it down some so they are on 4 legs and they will be able to shake more and work out their abs and back. I let mine grab the spring pole for around 45 min, but they are use to it and when I try to get them off to bring them inside they won't let go because they like it so much.

I give my dogs 1 cup of Nutro Lamb and Rice with homemade brownies in the morning and the same in the evenings. The brownies are liver or chicken with garlic and flax seed in them. No corn, wheat or artificial stuff in them. They love them. We go for runs and walks in the evening. I plan to build me a springpole soon and to work on carting work or weight pull. Your dog looks tight.

Thanks, I never realized how much difference a simple change in the diet can make. My goal is to keep all my dogs conditioned and in top shape at all times regardless if hog hunting, shows, or weight pulling is going on. I want them to always be in shape for their own health and happyness. Part of being a responsible dog owner is keeping all the dogs happy and working, and this is what I want to do. :)

I'm going to take her to weight pulling and hog hunts, look for the pics soon.;)

Thanks BnD!!! I'm always trying to learn from you and others members as your self who are helpful and knowledgable with this breed. Everyone starts somewhere and in my case my knowledge started here in this site. I'm glad I came here because if I did'nt i'd probably still think big pits are cool and would of kept mine big. Now I realize it's not about the size, it's about preformance, ability, keeping your dogs in top shape so that they can show their full potential and get the job done, whatever the task may be.

My female for example, she was the biggest in the litter when I got her. The other dogs grew up to 45-55lbs, and since she was always big many people told me that she can't have a tight body and to just keep her big because she will look better. Now those same people here are amazed at how much nicer she is turning out keeping her in shape. I took members advice from her and changed her diet and workout and it's working very well. Now that I started her on a running routine I hope to get all my dogs in very good shape, so far she has had the greatest results.
