No need to condition a 6.5 mos old pup, the judge knows that its a pup class, let the pup be a pup and you'll be better off...

Feed it and let it grow and be a puppy.

No conditioning just play with your pup and feed it goods.
;)
to date there are many good books out there on the raising of pups and young dogs. an abundance of knowledge can be gained from simply reading a book. i would recommend you to purchase a pit bull book of some sort. there are many out there. if you want a ref. or want to read some of the same book owned by myself, then pm me. and i will give you a list.

What age CAN you start conditioning?

You CAN start at anytime...but it can be harmful to start young, as bones, joints, etc. etc. aren't fully formed yet and an injury to a young dog can be devatating as the dog gets older and may never heal correctly...
If I was gonna start conditioning a young dog, I would wait until its at least 12mos old...

For the record,
Techinically BBK is correct with this:
"No need to condition a 6.5 mos old pup, the judge knows that its a pup class..."
However I have seen many this age conditioned for shows.
I think how you go about it is most important.
You can walk the pup a couple miles a day without fear of hurting the dog, but be careful to continue feeding quality food, and don't feed him down.
2-3 miles/ day will help the pup stay healthy, and strengthen the bond between you and the pup.
grch pitbitch,
currformations shows? i just lost a little respect for u. i thought u were in it for game not for the currformation shows

A dog is physically mature from 12-18 months.
I would not start any stressful conditioning until at least 18 mos.

just let a pup be a pup play with it and show it love as much as you can and build that bond whit it and when it is time for that and your pup is a dog he will do any thing he can to make you happy

I have found through my own experiences that light conditioning of a pup even at 10 weeks old benefits the young pup when he gets older for example they are less afraid to work on any type of conditoning equipment if taught at a young age and are physically and mentally more in shape when they get older. One of the best tools for light conditoning a pup is the flirt pole, some of my pups even at 6 weeks old woud chase and catch the hide on the flirt pole and shake it as if they where full grown dogs. Tug o war is also good but remember you gotta watch out you dont break there puppy teeth.

I agree 100%......not for conditioning purposes for a pup but more for an introduction to the tools he will be useing as he get older! Put your dog on the mill for a minute and the springpole and flirtpole! Remember to keep them short (no more than 2 min) as you want him to get use to it and know how to enjoy it! It will save you a lot of headaches and is less stressful on your dog!

I realy start conditioning my dogs at a age of 18 to 24 months. But I learn a pup or young dog to walk on a mill, walk beside a bike etc. I don't condition a dog at that age only a learn them.
