Sacramento, CA -- The former star of the movie "The Exorcist" showcased her role as dog lover and activist at the state Capitol Monday.

Linda Blair helped organize the protest against Sen. Jackie Speier's bill on breed-specific legislation. If passed, it would give cities and counties the power to enact dog specific laws, which could include rules on spaying and neutering.

Blair and others fear that power could lead to further limitations, thereby punishing the wrong people.

"It's because of irresponsible dog owners that are causing the problem, irresponsible breeding," Blair said. "We have over 50 dogs here today, saying we are good safe, wonderful, dogs and wonderful owners."

The California Veterinary Medical Association and the Humane Society of the United States also oppose the legislation.
