Vicious dog ordinance proposed in Hesston

HESSTON, Kansas - Vicious dogs are coming under attack once again. This time it’s in the city of Hesston, Kansas.
Owning a terrier may soon be illegal in Hesston. The Harvey County city is joining a growing list of communities across the country that want to bar ownership of terriers, rottweillers and pit bulls.
"We’re dealing with certain breeds of dogs that we believe have a tendency to become violent to other animals and to people," said John Carder, Hesston City Administrator.
That means part terrier dogs, like one owned by Ken Wilson, may soon have to go. Wilson can’t understand why.
"This little guy don’t hurt nobody. He makes a lot of noise but he’s a terrier -- I guess because he’s a terrier. But he wouldn’t hurt nobody," said Wilson.
But Hesston city leaders say they are ready to take a proactive approach to protecting the health and safety of its residents. They will debate the proposed ordinance August 8th.
