Bitch chewing and tugging at pups umbelical cord?

I know the mother likes to clean the pups but my bitch had a single male pup, wich i am keeping.And she had it by c section.So it was hard to get them to bond at first.Now this is a 4 year old female with her first puppy ever , mind you.
But anyway, She has bonded now and lets him feed regularly but she keeps tugging, and licking the cord.I know it needs to dry out and fall off like a scab, but it wont if she keeps doing this.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
oh yeah the band aid did not work, plus i think it needs air to dry out so i dont want to really cover it with anything.

I wouldn't worry so much about it, unless she is really going at it. You could try putting something on it like Bitter Orange.
I usually tie off the cord with Gut and cut the cord off, the gut just dissolves on it own.

if she's really irritating the umbilical area, spray the pup with a very small amount of spray deodorant (secret, rightguard, etc). This should help. However, all should be well

(Just want to note that the use of Bitter Apple spray in this situation...or any surgery situation....will only cause the skin tissue to die off. NOT GOOD!)

We use rubbing Alcohol, it seems to dry it up pretty fast, Congrats.

mix a little Alum(spice aisle) with water and put it on there, my vet said it wont hurt the cord and will give mom a damn bitter taste in her mouth and make her think twice before licking it again....just a suggestion, but by the time you get around to it she'll probaly be over it or itll have fallen off already...
