all dogs should have a skinny waist and show little rib fat...even a mildly fat dog has a lot of vascular stress...

True This Mister! Summer months need to keep the weight down on the dogs because of this. During the winter I let them pack on a few pounds for safe keeping because they shake the fat off. If you have them inside then keep'em showing ribs all year round. The dogs weight control's his or her ability to perform 100% in any job it has. Fat dogs like to be lazy and like Mister said it's bad on them. Vets will tell you diff views on this issue but use your own judgement and learn by OJT. Feed good food and dont let'em get lazy and you and ya dog will be ok. I know! been there and done that and lost some good one's young into the dogs. I have learned to let the dog do its own growing and not mess with nature. Keep them wormed and shots UTD and the strong will grow and the weak will pass on.

ok thx......but one more thing though my boy drako is at a perfect weight but why is he still lazy......all he wants to do is wrestle........he'll never go on the spring pole or anything.Dont confuse proper weight with Stamina or Endurance. I seen many at the right weight with no wind. Proper weight can be accomplished with just a daily walk and the proper feed ratio, this will not increase his stamina though, start running him in 15 minute intervals and when he gets tired rest him then do it again, use a bike or just tie him to 100 feet of clothes line and take him to a park with a ball if he goes nuts for a ball, also a lot of dogs love to chase remote control cars, I got lucky and got like 3 spiderman remote control cars for the family kids and they never used them, now almost every night I go to the empty lot behind the yard and let a couple chase them around like loons, while on the 100 foot lead, it is great exercise and they will do it until they drop, so you will see your dog being more fleet footed and showing more endurance, it just sounds to me like you have a bored and under exercised dog...

I agree with Mr; some dogs just aren't interested in the spring pole. Find an activity the dog enjoys. RC vehicles are a great way to get one moving.

it's up to you to find out what your dog is actracted to, be it spring pole, flirt stick, ball, even tug-a-war.
my female won't even look at a spring pole cause i didn't show her at a young age and now she has no want for it. Now the ball and tug-a-war is a different story. she will chase a ball donw for you in a heart beat, and you don't dare try and take her rope away from her unless you plan to pull and go to war.. the ball gets the wind in them while the rope IMO sculps the muscles in the neck and chest as well as down the back. and don't be affraid to put them on a chain for an hour or so if not more. you'd be surprised to see what luggin' a heavy chain around can do for your dogs over-all look.
counldn't be more please....http://www.game-dog.com/gallery/files/2/7/3/5/101_0116_thumb.jpg (http://www.game-dog.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=4550&c=3&userid=2735)

RC vehicles are a great way to get one moving.hey its really worth 10-20 bucks for a decent RC car, and they take a lot of Damage in my opinion to break one(mostly shell), and when you get good you can actually keep it away from almost any dog with ease, it takes practice but soon you can read him like a book...its actually fun, beer a RC car and a dog, lol good exercise IMO...all mine go nuts for them now, they hear the whine when I flip it on and know its play time, I let them catch it once in a while to make them feel good...

my post is a bit late but here is a suggestion about unconventional exercises and tools.

How about blowing bubbles?
Scooby loves to pop them and will turn quick at every direction he sees a bubble. This is great for that quick twitching muscle. Your children can have fun together with your dogs.

Rocky (my dog), I have him chasing empty 3-litter Pepsi bottles. They don't last long but it is fun for the dog. I usually take it away and throwing it back to him. When it is no longer round (the bottle), I grab on to the pouring side of the bottle and have Rocky bite on the base.....Tug time! I wonder if other dog men have "games" such as these for me to use with my dog.
