<H1 style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Denver and Aurora BREED BAN RALLY
There will be two rallies in the next two weeks in both Denver on Monday, July 18th at 5:30 p.m. in front of the City and County Building, and in Aurora on the west side of the Municipal Building on July 25th at 6:30 p.m.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
This rally (not protest, mind you!) must be conducted in a peaceful and respectful manner. Anything else will be to our detriment. As many of you know, there is a prevailing idea that Pit Bull owners are drug-dealing, dog-fighting gangsters. This is our chance to prove them wrong.
This is our chance, as a group, to show that Pit Bull owners and supporters (as we have many supporters who do not have Pits, but have Rotties, Dobermans, etc, etc.), are professional, RESPONSIBLE dog owners and positive members of society in general. This is our chance to show that we care about our animals and we care about the safety of our communities as well. We show that community care by supporting strong non-breed-specific dog laws.
Many of us are tired, frightened, sad, and angry about hiding our dogs, or sending them out of the city to friends, relatives, or rescue groups, but this rally is NOT THE TIME TO VENT our frustrations and anger. Vent to your friends, and family, but to achieve a successful rally, we must act positively and show ourselves in a good light. This is imperative! Look sharp and act responsible!
LOGISTICS
--Denver’s rally will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18th. Set up will be at 5 p.m., so if you can come earlier and help, please do. Find me (contact info below).
--The rally will be in front of the City and County Building on Bannock between 14th and Colfax. The actual address is 1437 Bannock Street. It’s across the park from our State Capitol building.
--Parking shouldn’t be too bad as most of the downtown workers will be leaving or will have left by that time. There is metered parking all around the building.
--Aurora’s rally will be on Monday, July 25th at 6:30 p.m. on the West Side of the Aurora Municipal Building at 15151 East Alameda Parkway, just east of I-225.
--There are free lots all around the building.
--If you want to speak at the rally, but haven’t signed up yet, do it now. E-mail thepitbullband@aol.com (thepitbullband@aol.com) and state in the e-mail exactly what you want to talk about and at which rally, or both. If you don’t have something specific you want to say, we can assign you a particular fact or aspect of Pit Bulls or BSL. All speakers, with a couple exceptions, will speak for a minute or less.
--All speakers should arrive at least a half hour before the start of the rally!
--At the Aurora rally, we’re going to call on an economic boycott of the city. We still need someone to talk about that. Seth, who started this boycott petition is going to write up something about it that he wants someone to read.
PIT BULL PHOTO CONTEST
We are having a picture contest at the rallies, the winner will be used as the mascot on our website, www.pitbullband.com (http://www.pitbullband.com/). If you can't make it to the rally, send the picture to:
breedbansdontwork@yahoo.com (javascript:parent.ComposeTo().
PETITIONS/INFORMATION TABLE
--You will be able to pick up copies of the petitions, Denver class action lawsuit forms, etc. at each rally.
--Bring any completed petitions you have to either rally and drop them off at the info table.
--For Denver, we will have these items at the info table: a flyer giving tips on what to do if Animal Control comes to your door; Underground Rescue Coordinator, Rita Anderson’s information in case someone needs assistance placing a dog; the Trinity Petition (for Denver residents only); a Vet Staff-only petition; an info and fact sheet about BSL (breed-specific legislation) and Pit Bulls, including Denver Council contact info; an e-mail sign up sheet (if someone wants to be on this BAND list); and class action lawsuit information sheets.
--In Aurora, we will have these items at the info table: the Aurora anti-bsl petition (for Aurora residents only); an economic boycott petition (which any metro area resident can sign); the Vet Staff only petition; an info sheet about Pit Bulls and BSL, including Aurora Council contact info; an e-mail sign-up sheet for The Pit Bull BAND.
SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE ARE SIGNS…
--We need to stay on message with our signs. Here are some suggested slogans:
“FACTS NOT FEAR!”
“JUDGE THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!”
“MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS ARE BEING VIOLATED!”
“EVERY DOLLAR YOU SPEND IN AURORA IS A DOLLAR THAT POLITICIANS CAN USE TO TAKE AWAY YOUR FAMILY PET!”
“LET OUR HOMES RULE, TOO!” ( for Denver, this is in reference to the recent court case where the City fought for home rule from the State)
“MOTHERS AGAINST BREED BANS!”
“FATHERS AGAINST PIT BUL BANS!”
“RESPONSIBLE OWNERS FOR RESPONSIBLE OWNERS!”
“VETS (OR WHATEVER PROFESSION YOU ARE!) AGAINST BREED BANS!”
“IS THIS AMERICA?”
“IS YOUR BREED NEXT?”
--For my sign, I’m going to use the one I used last time, which is a blown up photo (Kinko’s does it for cheap!) of my little guy, with the words “THIS IS WHERE MY HEART LIVES. STOP THE BAN!”
--Remember, although there are many voices wanting to say many things, this isn’t the time to vent our frustration!!!
--We will have a pre-rally meeting and sign-making party on Saturday, July 16th at noon at Armazem Coffeehouse at 3215 East Colfax. That’s about 10 blocks west of Colorado Blvd, and 10 blocks east of York Street. Please bring at least three posterboards with you (more, of course, is always good). Magic markers and the like will be provided, but if you have some, bring them anyway.
IN ADDITION TO THE RALLY…
--The website is under construction and will be up and running very soon. The address will be www.pitbullband.com (http://www.pitbullband.com/). We have our very own dear Summer in Colorado Springs to thank for putting up the website and paying for the domain name.
--Keep sending letters to the City Council, Mayor and Animal Control for both Denver and Aurora! Keep the pressure up! Keep the letters coming! Also target the Governor, your local State reps, Senators, Congress people, etc!
