And Big Papa, he does look healthy, and way better than alot of other peoples bigger dogs (they keep them fat to look bigger). I have a friend that does that. :(

Yeah, fat and healthy but not conditioned...

Er... I was joking. Obviously conditioning your dog doesn't have anything to do with missing a meal. I was politely saying he looks overweight. Unless he's just a pup he should have his food intake cut a bit. His stomach doesn't tuck at all.

B

Over all, he is a beautiful healthy dog! Not in bad shape, but not conditioned. Here's what a conditioned APBT looks like...but looks don't make a dog....

IMO more walking or better yet if he can fetch to have him doing sprints back and forth will realy help with more muscle deff. his neck needs to tighten up a bit also, try tug-a-war.
all in all nice dog!!

isn't that too skinny seeing his rib bones or is that actually good. For a apbt to be true to it's standard..you should be able to slightly see the ribs when they stand still, and a tad more when they walk or streth out. But you should not be able to see the hip bones sticking out. also, standard wants to slightly see the ribs on the topline(notice the ridges on chinamans topline), but just barely. Check out chinaman, the perfect example of the conditioned apbt, and he's proven himself worthy!

Have you tried a "hide" attached to a flirt pole? a real hide might get him in the mood...otherwise does he like to swim? what does he like to do besides lay around? i would do roadwork w/him..start slow and feed high quality dog food, but cut your food back a tad bit, but not too much since you'll be working him more...

Looks like he has spent a few to many nights on the sofa, after a fat meal. Still pretty dog

if i had my dog conditioned like that i would be in layin on the floor handcuffed and my dog would be in the pound somewhere and some bastards would be tryin to make her gain weight and sh!t.when i made my dog pull a bricks some people saw me and they called the cops and shit they wanted to take my dog but i explained everything.

I have a lazy dag also, but I cut his feed and he is now a bit more active. His favorite training is lay down and stay (And he can do that for hours!). When I train him with a other dog in front of him he will workout fine, but when alone he is very lazy. But he can walk for 2,5 hours, so he ain't that lazy. He don't play fetch more than 3 times and after that he eats the ball.

HUH? Just because a dog doesn't want to swim or play with a flirt pole doesn't mean he isn't game, it just means he doesn't want to do these things. There is only 1 way to know if a dog is game, & swimming isn't it. ;) (this term is thrown around so much that it's beginning to drive me insane!! Don't degrade the true game dogs because you say your dog is game because he really loves to chase the tennis ball!)

Big Papa

yeah he has a dewlap and he is still a pup he has loose skin all over meaning i guess he'll grow even bigger........but what i do is i mostly walk him.

robert
12-09-2005, 07:17 AM
If he is still vry young, I suggest you just hand walk him. Try giving him less food (just a bit). You will see him change slowly but surely as he gets adult. Have him play with females. As he grows older you could start running him. The secret, if I can allow myself to say this, is just to be patient, imaginative, tolerant and tenacious.
