Wilkes-Barre, PA -- What do pit bulls and drug dealers have in common? The Mayor of Wilkes-Barre says drug raids show many are living under the same roof.
And that pattern is sparking a call for restrictions on the notoriously aggressive dogs.
Mayor Tom Leighton says some owners are breeding the dogs as weapons.
"Every drug house we go into, every suspected drug house that we have there seems to be a pit bull. They`re not being used as pets. They`re weapons, dangerous weapons," Leighton.
The mayor now wants all pit bulls in Wilkes-Barre to be registered with the city.
He is also pushing for mandatory muzzles and leashes when the dogs are in public.
Still the S.P.C.A. says the restrictions might unfairly label the dogs as dangerous when not all pit bulls exhibit aggressive behavior.
