Last night I came home from work to find my only boy from my first litter dead in his house. He was 7 months old and a little spitfire. On our way to work yesterday morning, my husband mentioned that he was off his chain and running free when he went out to feed. Fortunately, so we thought, nothing happened to him on his run. Well, after we found him, we also found that the shed door was not latched properly and he had been inside. Also inside was a now empty tub of slug bait.
What he must have went through while I was at work I can't even imagine and it pains me to write this.
I will miss you little guy,and I'm sorry.....

I'm confused, if ya'll knew he was off the chain, why did nobody put him back on the chain??

He was put back on the chain when he was found running free. Maybe I should have specified that. Also, maybe I should specify, it was after we found him dead that we found the slug bait. I would never leave a dog on my yard that wasn't secured, and I never would have gone to work if I'd known he'd eaten the slug bait. Appreciate your comment.

Thanks everyone....This was my gyps first breeding at 5 yrs old, to an old dog that died shortly after the breeding. I lost a male that was stillborn, brought him back but he passed having seizures within 12 hrs...so losing the remaining male was hard. Took him out of the sack and cut his cord myself. First time momma needed help.Man its hard sometimes.Still got his 4 sisters tho.

Sorry if I sounded snitty in my above post. Its hard being questioned when your already blaming yourself. We should have checked the shed before we left. Damn.

try not to beat yourself up about it too much...a loss is always hard. You learn from mistakes it just sucks that this was such a costly one. I've been there before...Keep you head up!
