I just bought a pup that has Razor's Edge, Woods, Carvers, Vietnams, & Watchdog blood in him. Just wondering what you could tell me about these lines? Thanks

Edit: So I've heard that RE and the newer Watchdogs are bred just for looks. Now, I'm not into game dogs....yet. I just wanted a calm dog around the house. One to keep me occupied, and that would jog with me when I felt the urge. If I do decide to stud him out, with what line should I go with? I know I just said I'm not into game dogs yet, but the weight pulling sounds like it would be fun. (I'm also a bodybuilder, so weights are my thing) Anyway, I'd want a dog around 50-60 lbs. and strongly built. Strength over speed basically. I'd like his offspring to still have a stocky nature to them (I just really like the look), but more gameness. This is all if I decide to stud him. I'm gonna give it a couple years to see how game he is, and if he is, that's when I'd stud him. If not, he's getting fixed. Sorry for being naive to bloodlines. We gotta start somewhere....

Ok. The above post is in response to many, many emails I have received telling me that "blues do NOT end up in shelters". These are just a small handful of the dogs that are experiencing what we call the "thousand dollar blues".Thanks in clearing that up :)

“I just bought a pup that has Razor's Edge, Woods, Carvers, Vietnams, & Watchdog blood in him. Just wondering what you could tell me about these lines?”
When you combine that many bloodlines in one dog, it equals a scatter-bred mutt!

“I just wanted a calm dog around the house. One to keep me occupied, and that would jog with me when I felt the urge.”
Then why didn’t you just get a well bred performance dogs, that could of easily of fit that description? Plus would have been 100 times the athlete!

“If I do decide to stud him out, with what line should I go with?”
If? What possible reason would there be too stud him out? Do yourself and everyone else a huge favor…neuter him!

“Anyway, I'd want a dog around 50-60 lbs. and strongly built.”
Why didn’t you think about that before buying your current dog, then?

“I'd like his offspring to still have a stocky nature to them (I just really like the look), but more gameness. This is all if I decide to stud him.”
You just got your pup and all ready “planning” on studding him out? Neuter your pet, then spend the next two year plus researching about the breed and bloodlines. Not how to produce more pets that serve absolutely no purpose! There is enough BYB’s out there, they don’t need your or anyone else help polluting this breed!

“I'm gonna give it a couple years to see how game he is, and if he is, that's when I'd stud him. If not, he's getting fixed.”
I’ll save you lot of time and money…once again neuter your pet, it doesn’t matter if he is the gamest dog to ever walk. He is scatter-bred and the odds of him producing anything worth feeding are vastly stacked against him! A line revert back to their average…which isn’t good, in your dog’s pedigree!

“Sorry for being naive to bloodlines. We gotta start somewhere.…”
No problem, like you stated “gotta start somewhere”. Being you’re just “starting” why in the hell do you think you need to breed? Especially being, as you state; “naïve to bloodlines”? Hard to produce something if unable to follow the recipe (bloodline)!

miakoda-that first pic looks a lot like the pups mom, only a little thinner. Anyway, I think the pup is already registered as an APBT, but after reading on here about game dogs, I think I will neuter the pup in about 6 months. The more I read about game dogs, the more I get interested in them and would love to have a truly game bred one. Possibly in the next year or so, that way it will be easier to socialize the two of them. I've been looking and trying to find out all I can about the bloodlines I've noticed on here in the Bloodline section, but can't find anything. Are there any books, or articles, etc...that I can read to help me better understand what each bloodline is known for, and how they were made, and by who? Stuff like that. Please, just start spilling it on me. I'm located in Indiana and by what I've seen, there isn't a lot of dog competitions or actual game breeders around here, so this is pretty much the best spot I can find to get the info I need/want. Thanks in advance.

WWII, I commend you on your decision. Believe it or not, I think many of us own this board got into the dogs the exact same way with a similar kind of dog (scatterbred, not exactly up to par with the breed standard, etc). My first APBT was an awesome dog, but I soon learned that her ped was nothing more than gibberish & I went ahead with making my decision to spayher. She's now 10 yrs old & going strong. I got her b/c I loved the dog & was looking for an athletic dog to keep me company on long runs & in training (I played soccer all my life & through college). She served her purpose, but she also showed me how loving (& I mean to everyone...like the pizza delivery guy, the BugMan, the roofers, strangers) & loyal she was to us. I began doing some hardcore reading/studying about the breed. I got my next dog 1.5 yrs later. To this date, I still read what I can get my hands one, I still like to talk to people who are more experienced than me (& that's a whole lotta people  ) as each day it seems I learn a little bit more.

So just remember, even if you neuter this dog, his personality will NOT change, he will NOT get fat, nor will he be a wuss. We are the only ones who realize our boy's "little boys" our gone. He won't. In fact, it will make him healthier, studies show they live longer, & he won't embarrass you in front of guests when he decides that the lady on the couch's leg looks inviting for a "good time". :D

As far as reading, I really enjoyed the Richard Stratton's books as they are well written & broken down nicely for the beginner to understand & grasp. Oh, & my husband said it'snice to have lots of pictures. So get on Ebay or wherever & buy some books & read up & learn! We can use some more responsible & knowledgable owners in this breed!

I've been trying to think of that name for about the past week. Thank you so much. Are there any other authors or books that would be good to read. I do tend to read a lot, and actually grasp what I'm reading, so I can go through books like they're nothing.
