I wonder, does a bloodline of certain dogs carry along physical traits as they do with their ability? I suppose this is more of a genetic question in general as aposed to bloodlines. For example, say a certain dog is known for being stationed higher then average among bulldogs. If this dog was to be bred would its traits pass on to their offspring, and then to the offspring of their offspring thus creating a "physical bloodline trait"?

I cant say for sure, but I have seem to notice that most nigerino dogs. are a certian red color. and redboy dogs are a yellow redish color with a rednose.. jeep a bright buckskin. I dont know for sure this is just what I have came two!! but my cousin dog has a crooked toe. and so does his sister.. I dont know if it was passed down or what

yes they do...like most of your cardenas shorty dogs are small squatty dogs(if inbred), most of your heavy butcheryboy dogs are smaller type dogs(see lg and mccools). i know that if you take banjo/bb red dogs to lunsford dogs(both being butcherboy) they dogs are some cut up sob's.

but if you are asking if you will be able to look a dog with out seeing the ped and say that is a nigerino bred dog or a butcherboy dog by looking at it's head shape or station or chest girth i would say no. certain lines carry certain physical aesthetic traits, but to be able to say all the dogs of that lineage with have that certain trait i would say no.

Eh.... sometimes but any given litter can have dogs of various shapes, sizes, and colors. I wouldn't put any faith into it. You can't tell the way a dog is bred by looking at it. You have to have a pedigree from an honest breeder.

oh, well I'm sure it would make sense that we humans facial shapes, the way we act, eye/hair color are mostly determined by our parents, so say if you bred buckskin to buckskin more than 50% would be buckskin?

Sweeps, it all depends on the genetics of both parents. In general you could say yes to the litter being 50% buckskin, but I have seen litters where both parents are black and the litter is buckskins and brindals.

So the black parents that had the buckskin and brindal offspring would be carrying dominate genes of buckskin and brindal (their black pigmentation being resessive)?

So the black parents that had the buckskin and brindal offspring would be carrying dominate genes of buckskin and brindal (their black pigmentation being resessive)?I believe black is a dominant gene. So with that being said, you can have a "hidden" allele of Buckskin or Brindle. The Homozygous allele for Black is BB, heterozygous is Bb. The b might represent Buckskin or Brindle. So in the case of two black dogs producing buckskins, they were probably two heterozygous black dogs. Like I said, it's hidden so you don't see it in your dog but his offspring might show that phenotype.

If you were to do a chart of black genes being Bb then wouldnt BB have to appear thus allowing there to be at least one dominate black offspring?

If you were to do a chart of black genes being Bb then wouldnt BB have to appear in at least one offspring? In a punnett square, two heterozygous black dogs will produce 1 BB, 1 bb and 2 Bb...sometimes, science isn't 100% right.:D http://game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4171
