2 questions about crating a dog..
first, what are some otys i can put in the crate to keep him busy that arent dangerous, like something he cant choke on? He stays in the crate 8 hours a day while we are at work and i know he gets bored and it bothers me, i have a really hard rubber bone in there that he has not hurt yet, but i would like to put more in there.

next, i know from experience that pits are escape artists, im wondering whats going to happen when he gets fully grown, wont he break right out of the crate pretty easily while we are at work?
thanks!

As for toys, I don't leave anything in their crates when I'm not home just b/c I have yet to find that indestructible one. I do however put peanut butter & dog food kibble stuffed Kongs (the black ones not the red ones) in their crates when they are in their for time out time while I'm home. I usually just leave a large marrow bone in there if anything at all.

As for breaking out of the crates, some do & some don't. My dogs are fine in their standard wire crates, however a friend of mine has to use aluminum/steel crates (that cost about $600 each!) as he has some apbts that have bent the wire rungs to bust out of the crates. Just observe your dog in his crate when you are home to determine if he's a "flight risk".

I am had a problem with the Nylon bones. My dogs can tear apart any toy, even a Kong, when they are bored. The Nylon bones that I was giving to my puppy would start to get small and he would try to swallow it. I still give them Kongs when they are relaxing in their cages, but once they get half size, I throw it out and get a new one. Since my dogs are heavy chewers this is very often.
